Psalms 89
- 1I will sing of the mercies of the Lord for ever: with my mouth will I make known your faithfulness to all generations.
- 2For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: your faithfulness shall you establish in the very heavens.
- 3I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn to David my servant,
- 4Your descendants will I establish for ever, and build up your throne to all generations. Selah.
- 5And the heavens shall praise your wonders, O Lord: your faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints.
- 6For who in the heaven can be compared to the Lord? Who among the sons of the mighty can be compared to the Lord?
- 7God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all those who are about him.
- 8O Lord God of hosts, who is a strong Lord like to you? Or to your faithfulness around you?
- 9You rule the raging of the sea: when its waves arise, you still them.
- 10You have broken Rahab in pieces, as one that is killed. You have scattered your enemies with your strong arm.
- 11The heavens are yours, the earth also is yours: as for the world and its fullness, you have founded them.
- 12The north and the south you have created them: Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in your name.
- 13You have a mighty arm: strong is your hand, and high is your right hand.
- 14Justice and judgment are the home of your throne: mercy and truth shall go before your face.
- 15Blessed is the people who know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O Lord, in the light of your face.
- 16In your name shall they rejoice all the day: and in your righteousness shall they be lifted high.
- 17For you are the glory of their strength: and in your favor our horn shall be lifted high.
- 18For the Lord is our defense. The Holy One of Israel is our king.
- 19Then you spoke in vision to your holy one, and said, I have laid help on one that is mighty. I have lifted up one chosen out of the people.
- 20I have found David my servant. With my holy oil have I anointed him:
- 21With him my hand shall be established: my arm also shall strengthen him.
- 22The enemy shall not exact on him, or the son of evil make him suffer.
- 23And I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague those who hate him.
- 24But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be lifted high.
- 25I will set his hand also in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers.
- 26He shall cry to me, You are my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.
- 27Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.
- 28My mercy will I keep for him forever, and my covenant shall stand fast with him.
- 29His descendants also I will make to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven.
- 30If his children abandon my law, and do not walk in my judgments,
- 31If they break my laws, and do not keep my commandments,
- 32Then I will visit their rebellion with the rod, and their wrongdoing with the lash.
- 33But my faithful love will I not completely take from him, or let my faithfulness fail.
- 34My covenant will I not break, or alter the thing that has gone out of my lips.
- 35Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie to David.
- 36His descendants shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me.
- 37It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.
- 38But you have cast off and hated, you have been angry with your anointed.
- 39You have made void the covenant of your servant: you have dishonored his crown by casting it to the ground.
- 40You have broken down all his hedges. You have brought his strong holds to ruin.
- 41All that pass by the way plunder him: he is a disgrace to his neighbors.
- 42You have set up the right hand of his enemies. You have made all his enemies to rejoice.
- 43You have also turned the edge of his sword, and have not made him to stand in the battle.
- 44You have made his glory to stop, and cast his throne down to the ground.
- 45The days of his youth have you shortened: you have covered him with shame. Selah.
- 46How long, Lord? Will you hide yourself for ever? Shall your wrath burn like fire?
- 47Remember how short my time is: why have you made all men in vain?
- 48What man is he who lives, and shall not see death? Shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah.
- 49Lord, where are your former acts of faithful love, which you swore to David in your truth?
- 50Remember, Lord, how your servants are insulted, how I carry in my heart the insults of all the mighty nations.
- 51With which your enemies have insulted, O Lord. With which they have insulted the footsteps of your anointed.
- 52Blessed be the Lord forever. Amen, and Amen.
