Psalms 73
- 1Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart.
- 2But as for me, my feet were almost gone. My steps had nearly slipped.
- 3For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
- 4For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm.
- 5They are not in trouble as other men. Neither are they plagued like other men.
- 6Therefore pride circles their neck like a chain, violence covers them as a garment.
- 7Their eyes bulge out from fat: they have more than heart could wish.
- 8They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily.
- 9They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walks through the earth.
- 10Therefore his people return here: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.
- 11And they say, How does God know? And is there knowledge in the most High?
- 12These are the godless, who prosper in the world, they increase in riches.
- 13Truly I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocence.
- 14For all the day long have I been plagued, and disciplined every morning.
- 15If I said, "I will speak this way," I would offend against the generation of your children.
- 16When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me.
- 17Until I went into the sanctuary of God. Then understood I their end.
- 18Surely you set them in slippery places: you cast them down into destruction.
- 19How are they brought into ruin, as in a moment! They are completely consumed with terrors.
- 20As a dream when one awakes, so, O Lord, when you awake, you shall despise their image.
- 21So my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my innermost being.
- 22So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before you.
- 23But I am continually with you: you have held me by my right hand.
- 24You shall guide me with your counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.
- 25Who do I have in heaven but you? And there is none on earth that I desire beside you.
- 26My flesh and my heart fail: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.
- 27For those who are far from you shall perish: you have destroyed all those who are unfaithful to you.
- 28But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all your works.
What changed from the KJV
GIGAKJV is a modern English revision of the King James Version. The comparison below uses the project's KJV text in the later 1769 tradition and marks, word by word, each verse of Psalms 73 where the wording differs: struck-through words are the KJV's, highlighted words are GIGAKJV's.
KJVBut as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped.
GIGAKJVBut as for me, my feet were almost gone. My steps had nearly slipped.
KJVThey are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.

KJVTherefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment.
GIGAKJVTherefore pride circles their neck like a chain, violence covers them as a garment.
KJVTheir eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish.
GIGAKJVTheir eyes bulge out from fat: they have more than heart could wish.
KJVThey set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.
GIGAKJVThey set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walks through the earth.
KJVTherefore his people return hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.

KJVAnd they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?
GIGAKJVAnd they say, How does God know? And is there knowledge in the most High?
KJVBehold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.
GIGAKJVThese are the godless, who prosper in the world, they increase in riches.
KJVVerily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency.
GIGAKJVTruly I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocence.
KJVFor all the day long have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.
GIGAKJVFor all the day long have I been plagued, and disciplined every morning.
KJVIf I say, I will speak thus; behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children.
GIGAKJVIf I said, "I will speak this way," I would offend against the generation of your children.

GIGAKJVWhen I thought to know this, it was too painful for me.

GIGAKJVUntil I went into the sanctuary of God. Then understood I their end.
KJVSurely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction.
GIGAKJVSurely you set them in slippery places: you cast them down into destruction.
KJVHow are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors.
GIGAKJVHow are they brought into ruin, as in a moment! They are completely consumed with terrors.
KJVAs a dream when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou shalt despise their image.
GIGAKJVAs a dream when one awakes, so, O Lord, when you awake, you shall despise their image.
KJVThus my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my reins.
GIGAKJVSo my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my innermost being.
KJVSo foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.
GIGAKJVSo foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before you.

GIGAKJVBut I am continually with you: you have held me by my right hand.
KJVThou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.
GIGAKJVYou shall guide me with your counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.
KJVWhom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.
GIGAKJVWho do I have in heaven but you? And there is none on earth that I desire beside you.

KJVFor, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.
