Psalms 69
- 1Save me, O God. For the waters have come in to my soul.
- 2I sink in deep mud, where there is no standing: I have come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.
- 3I am weary of my crying: my throat is dried: my eyes fail while I wait for my God.
- 4Those who hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head: those who would destroy me, being my enemies wrongfully, are mighty: then I restored that which I did not take away.
- 5O God, you know my foolishness. My sins are not hid from you.
- 6Do not let those who wait on you, O Lord God of hosts, be ashamed for my sake: do not let those that seek you be put to shame for my sake, O God of Israel.
- 7Because for your sake I have borne disgrace. Shame has covered my face.
- 8I have become a stranger to my brothers and sisters, and a foreigner to my mother's children.
- 9For the zeal of your house has eaten me up. The insults of those who insulted you have fallen on me.
- 10When I wept, and disciplined my soul with fasting, that was to my disgrace.
- 11I made rough mourning clothes also my garment, and I became a proverb to them.
- 12Those who sit in the gate speak against me. I was the song of the drunkards.
- 13But as for me, my prayer is to you, O Lord, in an acceptable time: O God, in your great mercy hear me, in the truth of your salvation.
- 14Deliver me out of the mud, and let me not sink: let me be delivered from those who hate me, and out of the deep waters.
- 15Do not let the flood overflow me, neither let the deep swallow me up, and do not let the pit shut her mouth on me.
- 16Hear me, O Lord. For your faithful love is good: turn to me according to your many tender mercies.
- 17And do not hide your face from your servant. For I am in trouble: hear me quickly.
- 18Draw near to my soul, and redeem it: deliver me because of my enemies.
- 19You have known my disgrace, and my shame, and my dishonor: my enemies are all before you.
- 20Disgrace has broken my heart. I am full of sadness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none. I looked for comforters, but I found none.
- 21They gave me also gall for my food. In my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
- 22Let their table become a snare before them: and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap.
- 23Let their eyes be darkened, that they do not see. Make their backs shake continually.
- 24Pour out your anger on them, and let your wrathful anger take hold of them.
- 25Let their home be empty. Let none live in their tents.
- 26For they persecute the one you have struck. They talk about the pain of those you have wounded.
- 27Add wrongdoing to their wrongdoing: and let them not come into your righteousness.
- 28Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous.
- 29But I am poor and sad: let your salvation, O God, set me up on high.
- 30I will praise the name of God with a song, and will praise him with thanksgiving.
- 31This also shall please the Lord better than an ox or young bull that has horns and hoofs.
- 32The humble shall see this, and be glad: and you who seek God, your heart shall live.
- 33For the Lord hears the poor, and does not despise his prisoners.
- 34Let the heaven and earth praise him, the seas, and everything that moves in it.
- 35For God will save Zion, and will build the cities of Judah: that they may live there, and have it in possession.
- 36The descendants also of his servants shall inherit it: and those who love his name shall live in it.
