Psalms 38
- 1O Lord, do not rebuke me in your wrath: neither discipline me in your hot displeasure.
- 2For your arrows stick fast in me, and your hand presses heavily on me.
- 3There is no soundness in my flesh because of your anger. Neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.
- 4For my wrongdoings have gone over my head: as a heavy burden they are too heavy for me.
- 5My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness.
- 6I am troubled. I am bowed down greatly. I go mourning all the day long.
- 7For my body is filled with burning pain: and there is no soundness in my flesh.
- 8I am weak and completely crushed: I have roared by reason of the turmoil of my heart.
- 9Lord, all my desire is before you. My groaning is not hid from you.
- 10My heart pants, my strength fails me: as for the light of my eyes, it also has gone from me.
- 11My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore. My relatives stand far away.
- 12They also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and those who seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.
- 13But I was like a deaf man who does not hear, and like a man unable to speak who does not open his mouth.
- 14So I was as a man who does not hear, and in whose mouth are no arguments.
- 15For in you, O Lord, do I hope: you will hear, O Lord my God.
- 16For I said, "Hear me, so that they do not rejoice over me." When my foot slips, they lift themselves up against me.
- 17For I am about to stumble, and my sorrow is continually before me.
- 18For I will declare my wrongdoing. I will be sorry for my sin.
- 19But my enemies are lively, and they are strong: and those who hate me wrongfully are multiplied.
- 20They also that pay back evil for good are my enemies. This is because I follow what is good.
- 21Do not abandon me, O Lord: O my God, do not be far from me.
- 22Hurry to help me, O Lord my salvation.
What changed from the KJV
GIGAKJV is a modern English revision of the King James Version. The comparison below uses the project's KJV text in the later 1769 tradition and marks, word by word, each verse of Psalms 38 where the wording differs: struck-through words are the KJV's, highlighted words are GIGAKJV's.
KJVO Lord, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
GIGAKJVO Lord, do not rebuke me in your wrath: neither discipline me in your hot displeasure.
KJVFor thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore.
GIGAKJVFor your arrows stick fast in me, and your hand presses heavily on me.
KJVThere is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.
GIGAKJVThere is no soundness in my flesh because of your anger. Neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.
KJVFor mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.
GIGAKJVFor my wrongdoings have gone over my head: as a heavy burden they are too heavy for me.
KJVI am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.
GIGAKJVI am troubled. I am bowed down greatly. I go mourning all the day long.
KJVFor my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh.
GIGAKJVFor my body is filled with burning pain: and there is no soundness in my flesh.
KJVI am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.
GIGAKJVI am weak and completely crushed: I have roared by reason of the turmoil of my heart.
KJVLord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee.
GIGAKJVLord, all my desire is before you. My groaning is not hid from you.
KJVMy heart panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me.
GIGAKJVMy heart pants, my strength fails me: as for the light of my eyes, it also has gone from me.
KJVMy lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore; and my kinsmen stand afar off.
GIGAKJVMy lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore. My relatives stand far away.
KJVThey also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.
GIGAKJVThey also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and those who seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.
KJVBut I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.
GIGAKJVBut I was like a deaf man who does not hear, and like a man unable to speak who does not open his mouth.
KJVThus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.
GIGAKJVSo I was as a man who does not hear, and in whose mouth are no arguments.
KJVFor in thee, O Lord, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.
GIGAKJVFor in you, O Lord, do I hope: you will hear, O Lord my God.
KJVFor I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.
GIGAKJVFor I said, "Hear me, so that they do not rejoice over me." When my foot slips, they lift themselves up against me.
KJVFor I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me.
GIGAKJVFor I am about to stumble, and my sorrow is continually before me.
KJVFor I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.
GIGAKJVFor I will declare my wrongdoing. I will be sorry for my sin.
KJVBut mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.
GIGAKJVBut my enemies are lively, and they are strong: and those who hate me wrongfully are multiplied.
KJVThey also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is.
GIGAKJVThey also that pay back evil for good are my enemies. This is because I follow what is good.
KJVForsake me not, O Lord: O my God, be not far from me.
GIGAKJVDo not abandon me, O Lord: O my God, do not be far from me.
KJVMake haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.
GIGAKJVHurry to help me, O Lord my salvation.
