Isaiah 64
- 1Oh, if only you would tear open the heavens, that you would come down, that the mountains might flow down at your presence,
- 2As when the melting fire burns, the fire causes the waters to boil, to make your name known to your enemies, that the nations may tremble at your presence!
- 3When you did awesome things which we did not look for, you came down, the mountains flowed down at your presence.
- 4For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, or taken in with the ear, neither has the eye seen, O God, beside you, what he has prepared for him who waits for him.
- 5You meet him who rejoices and works righteousness, those that remember you in your ways. You are angry. For we have sinned: in those is continuance, and we shall be saved.
- 6But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteous acts are as filthy rags. We all do fade as a leaf. Our wrongdoings, like the wind, have taken us away.
- 7And there is none that calls on your name, that stirs up himself to take hold of you. For you have hid your face from us, and have consumed us, because of our wrongdoings.
- 8But now, O Lord, you are our father. We are the clay, and you our potter. We all are the work of your hand.
- 9Do not be very angry, O Lord, neither remember wrongdoing for ever: look we ask you, we are all your people.
- 10Your holy cities are a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a ruin.
- 11Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised you, is burned up with fire: and all our pleasant things are laid waste.
- 12Will you refrain yourself for these things, O Lord? Will you be quiet, and make us suffer so severely?
What changed from the KJV
GIGAKJV is a modern English revision of the King James Version. The comparison below uses the project's KJV text in the later 1769 tradition and marks, word by word, each verse of Isaiah 64 where the wording differs: struck-through words are the KJV's, highlighted words are GIGAKJV's.
KJVOh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence,
GIGAKJVOh, if only you would tear open the heavens, that you would come down, that the mountains might flow down at your presence,
KJVAs when the melting fire burneth, the fire causeth the waters to boil, to make thy name known to thine adversaries, that the nations may tremble at thy presence!
GIGAKJVAs when the melting fire burns, the fire causes the waters to boil, to make your name known to your enemies, that the nations may tremble at your presence!
KJVWhen thou didst terrible things which we looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains flowed down at thy presence.
GIGAKJVWhen you did awesome things which we did not look for, you came down, the mountains flowed down at your presence.
KJVFor since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.
GIGAKJVFor since the beginning of the world men have not heard, or taken in with the ear, neither has the eye seen, O God, beside you, what he has prepared for him who waits for him.
KJVThou meetest him that rejoiceth and worketh righteousness, those that remember thee in thy ways: behold, thou art wroth; for we have sinned: in those is continuance, and we shall be saved.
GIGAKJVYou meet him who rejoices and works righteousness, those that remember you in your ways. You are angry. For we have sinned: in those is continuance, and we shall be saved.
KJVBut we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
GIGAKJVBut we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteous acts are as filthy rags. We all do fade as a leaf. Our wrongdoings, like the wind, have taken us away.
KJVAnd there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities.
GIGAKJVAnd there is none that calls on your name, that stirs up himself to take hold of you. For you have hid your face from us, and have consumed us, because of our wrongdoings.
KJVBut now, O Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.
GIGAKJVBut now, O Lord, you are our father. We are the clay, and you our potter. We all are the work of your hand.
KJVBe not wroth very sore, O Lord, neither remember iniquity for ever: behold, see, we beseech thee, we are all thy people.
GIGAKJVDo not be very angry, O Lord, neither remember wrongdoing for ever: look we ask you, we are all your people.
KJVThy holy cities are a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.
GIGAKJVYour holy cities are a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a ruin.
KJVOur holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised thee, is burned up with fire: and all our pleasant things are laid waste.
GIGAKJVOur holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised you, is burned up with fire: and all our pleasant things are laid waste.
KJVWilt thou refrain thyself for these things, O Lord? wilt thou hold thy peace, and afflict us very sore?
GIGAKJVWill you refrain yourself for these things, O Lord? Will you be quiet, and make us suffer so severely?
