Isaiah 33
- 1Disaster is coming to you that plunder, and you were not plundered. Deal unfaithfully, and they did not deal unfaithfully with you! When you shall stop plundering, you shall be plundered. When you shall make an end to deal unfaithfully, they shall deal unfaithfully with you.
- 2O Lord, be gracious to us. We have waited for you: Be their arm every morning, our salvation also in the time of trouble.
- 3At the noise of the uproar the people fled, at the lifting up of yourself the nations were scattered.
- 4And your plunder shall be gathered like the gathering of the caterpillar: as the running back and forth of locusts shall he run on them.
- 5The Lord is lifted high. For he lives on high: he has filled Zion with judgment and righteousness.
- 6And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of your times, and strength of salvation: the fear of the Lord is his treasure.
- 7Their brave ones shall cry outside: the ambassadors of peace shall weep bitterly.
- 8The highways lie waste, no one travels the roads: he has broken the covenant, he has despised the cities, he regards no man.
- 9The earth mourns and languishes: Lebanon is ashamed and cut down: Sharon is like a wilderness, and Bashan and Carmel shake off their fruits.
- 10Now I will rise, says the Lord. Now I will be lifted high. Now I will lift up myself.
- 11You shall conceive chaff, you shall give birth to stubble: your breath, as fire, shall devour you.
- 12And the people shall be as the burnings of lime: as thorns cut up shall they be burned in the fire.
- 13Hear, you that are far off, what I have done. And you that are near, acknowledge my might.
- 14The sinners in Zion are afraid. Fearfulness has surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall live with the devouring fire? Who among us shall live with everlasting burnings?
- 15He who walks righteously, and speaks uprightly, he who hates money gained by cheating, who refuses to take a bribe, who stops his ears from hearing plans to kill, and shuts his eyes from seeing evil.
- 16He shall live on high: his place of defense shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him. His waters shall be sure.
- 17Your eyes will see the king in his beauty. They will see the land stretching far away.
- 18Your heart shall meditate terror. Where is the scribe? Where is the receiver? Where is he who counted the towers?
- 19You shall not see a fierce people, a people of a deeper speech than you can understand. Of a stammering tongue, that you can not understand.
- 20Look on Zion, the city of our sacred festivals: your eyes shall see Jerusalem a quiet home, a tabernacle that shall not be taken down. Not one of its stakes shall ever be removed, neither shall any of its cords be broken.
- 21But there the glorious Lord will be to us a place of broad rivers and streams. In which shall go no galley with oars, neither shall gallant ship pass by it.
- 22For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king. He will save us.
- 23Your ropes hang loose. They could not well strengthen their mast, they could not spread the sail: then is the prey of a great plunder divided. The lame take the prey.
- 24And no one who lives there shall say, I am sick: the people who live in it shall be forgiven their wrongdoing.
