Isaiah 10
- 1Disaster is coming to those who decree unrighteous decrees, and who write oppressive laws.
- 2To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the orphan!
- 3And what will you do in the day of punishment, and in the ruin which shall come from far? Who will you flee to for help? And where will you leave your glory?
- 4Without me they shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the killed. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
- 5O Assyrian, the rod of my anger, and the staff in their hand is my anger.
- 6I will send him against a hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the plunder, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mud of the streets.
- 7However he does not mean so, neither does his heart think so. But it is in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few.
- 8For he says, Are not my princes altogether kings?
- 9Is not Calno as Carchemish? Is not Hamath as Arpad? Is not Samaria as Damascus?
- 10As my hand has found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose carved idols did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria.
- 11Shall I not, as I have done to Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols?
- 12Therefore it will happen, that when the Lord has performed his whole work on mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.
- 13For he says, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom. For I am sensible: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the people like a brave man:
- 14And my hand has found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathers eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth. There was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or chirped.
- 15Shall the axe boast itself against him who cuts with it? Or shall the saw act proudly against him who shakes it? As if the rod should shake itself against those who lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were no wood.
- 16Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of Hosts, send a wasting disease among his strong warriors. Under his glory he shall light a fire that burns like a blaze.
- 17And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day.
- 18And shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: and they shall be as when a standard-bearer faints.
- 19And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few, that a child may write them.
- 20And it will happen in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay on him who struck them. But shall stay on the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.
- 21The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God.
- 22For though your people Israel be as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return: the consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness.
- 23For the Lord God of hosts shall make a consumption, even determined, in the middle of all the land.
- 24Therefore the Lord God of hosts says this, O my people who live in Zion, do not be afraid of the Assyrian: he shall strike you with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against you, after the manner of Egypt.
- 25For yet a very little while, and the anger shall stop, and my anger in their destruction.
- 26And the Lord of Hosts shall stir up a whip for him according to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb: and as his rod was on the sea, so he shall lift it up after the manner of Egypt.
- 27And it will happen in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off your shoulder, and his yoke from off your neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.
- 28He has come to Aiath, he is passed to Migron. At Michmash he has laid up his baggage:
- 29They have gone over the passage: they have camped for the night at Geba. Ramah is afraid. Gibeah of Saul has fled.
- 30Lift up your voice, O daughter of Gallim: cause it to be heard to Laish, O poor Anathoth.
- 31Madmenah is removed, the people of Gebim gather themselves to flee.
- 32As yet he shall remain at Nob that day: he shall shake his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.
- 33The Lord, the Lord of Hosts, shall lop the branch with terror: and the tallest ones shall be cut down, and the proud shall be humbled.
- 34And he shall cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one.
What changed from the KJV
GIGAKJV is a modern English revision of the King James Version. The comparison below uses the project's KJV text in the later 1769 tradition and marks, word by word, each verse of Isaiah 10 where the wording differs: struck-through words are the KJV's, highlighted words are GIGAKJV's.
