Isaiah 53
- 1Who has believed our report? And who has the arm of the Lord been revealed to?
- 2For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he has no form or beauty. When we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
- 3He is despised and rejected of men. A man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him. He was despised, and we did not value him.
- 4Surely he has borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, struck of God, and afflicted.
- 5But he was wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities. The punishment that brought us peace was on him, and we are healed through his wounds.
- 6All we like sheep have gone astray. We have turned every one to his own way. The Lord has laid on him the wrongdoing of us all.
- 7He was oppressed and suffering, yet he did not open his mouth. He is brought like a lamb to the slaughter, and like a sheep that is silent before her shearers, so he does not open his mouth.
- 8He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? For he was cut off out of the land of the living. For the rebellion of my people was he stricken.
- 9And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death. Because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
- 10Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him, he has put him to grief: when you shall make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his descendants, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.
- 11He shall see of the anguish of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many. For he shall carry the blame for their wrongdoings.
- 12Therefore I will divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the plunder with the strong. Because he has poured out his soul to death: and he was numbered with the rebels. He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the rebels.
What changed from the KJV
GIGAKJV is a modern English revision of the King James Version. The comparison below uses the project's KJV text in the later 1769 tradition and marks, word by word, each verse of Isaiah 53 where the wording differs: struck-through words are the KJV's, highlighted words are GIGAKJV's.
