Luke 13
- 1Some who were there at that time told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices.
- 2And Jesus answering said to them, Do you think these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered such things?
- 3I tell you, No. But unless you repent, you shall all likewise perish.
- 4Or those eighteen people killed when the tower in Siloam fell on them. Do you think they were worse sinners than everyone else living in Jerusalem?
- 5I tell you, No. But unless you repent, you shall all likewise perish.
- 6He also spoke this parable. A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard. He came and sought fruit on it, and found none.
- 7Then he said to the keeper of his vineyard, These three years I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none. Cut it down. Why should it waste the ground?
- 8And he answering said to him, Lord, leave it alone this year also, till I dig around it and put manure on it.
- 9And if it bears fruit, well. If not, then after that you shall cut it down.
- 10And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath.
- 11And there was a woman who had a spirit of sickness eighteen years, and was bent over, and could in no way lift herself up.
- 12When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said to her, Woman, you are freed from your sickness.
- 13And he laid his hands on her. And immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.
- 14And the ruler of the synagogue answered with anger, because Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said to the people, There are six days in which men ought to work. In them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day.
- 15The Lord then answered him, and said, You hypocrite, does not each one of you on the sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the stall, and lead him away to water?
- 16And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, who Satan has bound these eighteen years, be set free from this bond on the sabbath day?
- 17And when he had said these things, all his enemies were ashamed. And all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.
- 18Then he said, What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it?
- 19It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and cast into his garden. It grew and became a great tree, and the birds of the air stayed in its branches.
- 20And again he said, To what shall I compare the kingdom of God?
- 21It is like yeast, which a woman took and mixed into about 20 quarts of flour, till it had worked all through the dough.
- 22And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and traveling toward Jerusalem.
- 23Then someone said to him, Lord, are only a few being saved? And he said to them,
- 24Work hard to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able.
- 25Once the master of the house has gotten up and shut the door, you will begin standing outside and knocking, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he will answer, I do not know you or where you come from.
- 26Then you will begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in your presence, and you have taught in our streets.
- 27But he shall say, I tell you, I do not know you or where you come from. Go away from me, all you evildoers.
- 28There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.
- 29And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.
- 30And there are last who shall be first, and there are first who shall be last.
- 31The same day some of the Pharisees came, saying to him, Get out and leave this place. For Herod wants to kill you.
- 32And he said to them, Go and tell that fox, I cast out demons, and I do cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.
- 33But I must walk today, and tomorrow, and the day following. For it cannot be that a prophet die outside Jerusalem.
- 34O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets, and stones those who are sent to you. How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were unwilling!
- 35Your house is left to you empty. And truly I say to you, You shall not see me until the time comes when you shall say, Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
What changed from the KJV
GIGAKJV is a modern English revision of the King James Version. The comparison below uses the project's KJV text in the later 1769 tradition and marks, word by word, each verse of Luke 13 where the wording differs: struck-through words are the KJV's, highlighted words are GIGAKJV's.
