Luke 12
- 1In the meantime, when a crowd of many thousands of people had gathered, so many that they trampled one on another, he began to say to his disciples first of all, Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
- 2For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, neither hid that will not be known.
- 3Therefore whatever you have spoken in darkness will be heard in the light, and that which you have spoken in the ear in private rooms will be proclaimed on the rooftops.
- 4And I say to you my friends, Do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have nothing more they can do.
- 5But I will warn you who you should fear. Fear him who after he has killed has power to cast into hell. Yes, I say to you, Fear him.
- 6Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies, and not one of them is forgotten before God?
- 7But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore. You are of more value than many sparrows.
- 8Also I say to you, Whoever will confess me before men, him will the Son of man also confess before the angels of God.
- 9But he who denies me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.
- 10And whoever will speak a word against the Son of man, it will be forgiven him. But to him who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit it will not be forgiven.
- 11And when they bring you before synagogues, magistrates, and authorities, do not worry about how to answer, what answer to give, or what to say.
- 12For the Holy Spirit shall teach you in the same hour what you ought to say.
- 13And one of the company said to him, Master, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.
- 14And he said to him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider of property between you?
- 15And he said to them, Be careful, and beware of greed. For a man's life does not consist in the abundance of the things which he possesses.
- 16And he spoke a parable to them, saying, The ground of a rich man produced a big crop.
- 17And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to store my crops?
- 18And he said, This I will do. I will pull down my barns, and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my crops and my goods.
- 19And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years. Take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry.
- 20But God said to him, You fool, this night your soul will be required of you. Then whose will those things be, which you have provided?
- 21This is how it is with the person who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
- 22And he said to his disciples, Therefore I say to you, Do not worry about your life, what you will eat, neither for the body, what you will put on.
- 23The life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing.
- 24Consider the ravens. They do not sow or reap. They have no storehouse or barn, and God feeds them. How much more valuable you are than the birds!
- 25And which of you by worrying can add even one hour to his life?
- 26If you cannot do even the smallest thing, why worry about the rest?
- 27Consider the lilies, how they grow. They do not toil, they do not spin. And yet I say to you that Solomon in all his glory was not dressed like one of these.
- 28If then God so clothes the grass, which is today in the field, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith?
- 29And do not seek what you will eat, or what you will drink. Do not be unsettled with worry.
- 30For all these things do the nations of the world seek after. And your Father knows that you have need of these things.
- 31But rather seek the kingdom of God, and all these things will be added to you.
- 32Do not fear, little flock. For it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
- 33Sell what you have and give to those in need. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not wear out, a treasure in heaven that does not fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.
- 34For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
- 35Keep your waist belted, and your lights burning.
- 36And be like men who wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding, that when he comes and knocks, they may open to him immediately.
- 37Blessed are those servants the master finds watching when he comes. Truly I say to you, that he will belt himself, and have them sit down to eat, and will come out and serve them.
- 38And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.
- 39And know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have let his house be broken through.
- 40So be ready also. For the Son of man comes at an hour when you do not expect him.
- 41Then Peter said to him, Lord, do you speak this parable to us, or even to all?
- 42And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, who his master shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season?
- 43Blessed is that servant his master finds doing so when he comes.
- 44I say to you truly, that he will make him ruler over all that he has.
- 45But if that servant says in his heart, My lord delays his coming, and begins to beat the male servants and female servants, and to eat and drink, and to get drunk,
- 46The lord of that servant will come in a day when he does not look for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in two, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.
- 47And that servant who knew his lord's will, and did not prepare himself, neither did according to his will, will be beaten with many lashes.
- 48But the servant who did not know, and did things deserving a beating, will receive few lashes. Much will be required from anyone given much, and people will ask more from anyone entrusted with much.
- 49I have come to send fire on the earth. And how I wish it were already burning!
- 50But I have a baptism to undergo, and I am deeply distressed until it is completed!
- 51Do you suppose that I have come to give peace on earth? I tell you, No, but rather division.
- 52For from now on there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.
- 53The father will be divided against the son, and the son against the father. The mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother. The mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
- 54And he said also to the people, When you see a cloud rise out of the west, immediately you say, A shower is coming, and so it is.
- 55And when you see the south wind blow, you say, There will be heat, and it happens.
- 56You hypocrites, you can discern the face of the sky and of the earth, but how is it that you do not discern this time?
- 57And why do you not judge for yourselves what is right?
- 58When you go with your opponent to the magistrate, make every effort on the way to settle with him. Otherwise, he may drag you before the judge, the judge may hand you over to the officer, and the officer may throw you into prison.
- 59I tell you, you will not leave there, until you have paid the very last penny.
What changed from the KJV
GIGAKJV is a modern English revision of the King James Version. The comparison below uses the project's KJV text in the later 1769 tradition and marks, word by word, each verse of Luke 12 where the wording differs: struck-through words are the KJV's, highlighted words are GIGAKJV's.
KJVIn the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
GIGAKJVIn the meantime, when a crowd of many thousands of people had gathered, so many that they trampled one on another, he began to say to his disciples first of all, Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
