Luke 10
- 1After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by two before his face into every city and place where he himself would come.
- 2Therefore he said to them, The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few. Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send out laborers into his harvest.
- 3Go your ways. I send you out as lambs among wolves.
- 4Carry no purse, or bag, or shoes. And greet no man by the way.
- 5And into whatever house you enter, first say, Peace be to this house.
- 6And if the son of peace be there, your peace will rest on it. If not, it will return to you.
- 7And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give. For the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not go from house to house.
- 8And into whatever city you enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you.
- 9And heal the sick who are in it, and say to them, The kingdom of God has come near to you.
- 10But into whatever city you enter, and they do not receive you, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say,
- 11Even the very dust of your city, which clings on us, we do wipe off against you. But be sure of this, that the kingdom of God has come near to you.
- 12But I say to you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city.
- 13Disaster is coming to you, Chorazin! Disaster is coming to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they would have repented long ago, sitting in rough mourning clothes and ashes.
- 14But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you.
- 15And you, Capernaum, who are lifted high to heaven, will be thrust down to hell.
- 16He who hears you hears me. And he who despises you despises me. And he who despises me despises him who sent me.
- 17And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subject to us through your name.
- 18And he said to them, I saw Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
- 19I give to you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. And nothing will by any means hurt you.
- 20But do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you. But rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
- 21In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hid these things from the wise and clever, and have revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in your sight.
- 22My Father has handed all things over to me. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, or who the Father is except the Son and anyone the Son chooses to reveal him to.
- 23And he turned to his disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the eyes that see the things that you see.
- 24For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which you see, and have not seen them, and to hear those things which you hear, and have not heard them.
- 25And a lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
- 26He said to him, What is written in the law? How do you read?
- 27And he answering said, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.
- 28And he said to him, You have answered right. Do this, and you will live.
- 29But he, willing to justify himself, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbor?
- 30And Jesus answering said, A man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, and wounded him, and went away, leaving him half dead.
- 31And by chance there came down a priest that way. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
- 32And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.
- 33But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
- 34And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own animal, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
- 35And the next day when he left, he took out two silver coins, and gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, Take care of him, and whatever you spend more, when I come again, I will repay you.
- 36Which now of these three, do you think, was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?
- 37And he said, He who showed mercy on him. Then Jesus said to him, Go, and do likewise.
- 38As they went, he entered into a village, and a woman named Martha received him into her house.
- 39And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.
- 40But Martha was burdened with much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her therefore that she help me.
- 41And Jesus answered her, Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things.
- 42But one thing is needed. And Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.
