Mark 9
- 1And he said to them, Truly I say to you, There are some standing here who shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.
- 2And after six days Jesus takes with him Peter, James, and John, and leads them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them.
- 3And his clothes became shining, very white as snow, so that no launderer on earth could bleach them so white.
- 4And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.
- 5And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us make three tabernacles, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.
- 6For he did not know what to say, for they were terrified.
- 7And there was a cloud that overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son. Hear him.
- 8And suddenly, when they had looked around, they saw no one anymore, except Jesus only with themselves.
- 9And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them to tell no one what they had seen, till the Son of man had risen from the dead.
- 10And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean.
- 11They asked him, Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?
- 12And he answered and told them, Elijah truly comes first, and restores all things. And how is it written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be treated as nothing?
- 13But I say to you, Elijah has indeed come, and they have done to him whatever they pleased, as it is written of him.
- 14And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great crowd around them, and the scribes questioning with them.
- 15And immediately all the people, when they saw him, were greatly amazed, and running to him greeted him.
- 16And he asked the scribes, What are you questioning them about?
- 17And someone in the crowd answered, Teacher, I have brought you my son, who has a spirit that prevents him from speaking.
- 18And wherever it seizes him, it tears him, and he foams, and gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid. I spoke to your disciples, that they should cast it out, and they could not.
- 19He answers him, and says, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him to me.
- 20And they brought him to him. And when the spirit saw him, immediately it shook him violently, and he fell on the ground and rolled around foaming.
- 21And he asked his father, How long has this been happening to him? And he said, From childhood.
- 22And often it has cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us, and help us.
- 23Jesus said to him, If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.
- 24And immediately the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief.
- 25When Jesus saw the people running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, You spirit that makes him unable to speak or hear, I command you to come out of him and never enter him again.
- 26And the spirit cried, and convulsed him violently, and came out of him. And he was as one dead, so that many said, He is dead.
- 27But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up, and he arose.
- 28And when he had come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could we not cast him out?
- 29And he said to them, This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.
- 30And they left there, and passed through Galilee. He did not want anyone to know it.
- 31For he taught his disciples, and said to them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him. And after he is killed, he will rise the third day.
- 32But they did not understand that saying, and were afraid to ask him.
- 33He came to Capernaum, and being in the house he asked them, What were you disputing among yourselves on the way?
- 34But they kept silent. For on the way they had disputed among themselves who should be the greatest.
- 35And he sat down, and called the twelve, and says to them, If anyone desires to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.
- 36And he took a child, and set him among them. And when he had taken him in his arms, he said to them,
- 37Whoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receives me. And whoever shall receive me, does not receive me, but him who sent me.
- 38And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out demons in your name, and he does not follow us. And we told him to stop, because he does not follow us.
- 39But Jesus said, Do not forbid him. For no one who does a miracle in my name can readily speak evil of me.
- 40For he who is not against us is for us.
- 41For whoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because you belong to Christ, truly I say to you, he shall not lose his reward.
- 42And if anyone leads one of these little ones who believe in me into sin, it would be better for that person to have a millstone hung around their neck and to be thrown into the sea.
- 43And if your hand leads you into sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be put out.
- 44Where their worm does not die, and the fire is not put out.
- 45And if your foot leads you into sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter lame into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be put out.
- 46Where their worm does not die, and the fire is not put out.
- 47And if your eye leads you into sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire.
- 48Where their worm does not die, and the fire is not put out.
- 49For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.
- 50Salt is good, but if the salt has lost its saltiness, with what will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.
