Mark 4
- 1He began again to teach by the seaside. A great crowd gathered to him, so that he entered a boat and sat in it on the sea. The whole crowd was by the sea on the land.
- 2And he taught them many things by parables, and said to them in his teaching,
- 3Listen. A sower went out to sow.
- 4As he sowed, some fell by the path, and the birds of the air came and devoured it.
- 5And some fell on stony ground, where it had little earth. Immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth.
- 6But when the sun was up, it was scorched, and because it had no root, it withered away.
- 7And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.
- 8And other seed fell on good ground, and yielded fruit that sprang up and increased. It produced a crop, some thirty, some sixty, and some a hundred.
- 9And he said to them, He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
- 10And when he was alone, those around him with the twelve asked him about the parable.
- 11And he said to them, You have been given knowledge of the mystery of the kingdom of God, but for those outside, everything is told in parables,
- 12So that they may see and yet not really see, and hear and yet not understand, so that they do not turn back and have their sins forgiven.
- 13And he said to them, Do you not know this parable? And how then will you know all parables?
- 14The sower sows the word.
- 15These are the ones by the path, where the word is sown. When they have heard, Satan comes immediately, and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts.
- 16And these are the ones sown on stony ground, who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with joy.
- 17And they have no root in themselves, so they endure only a while. Then, when trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they immediately fall away.
- 18And these are those who are sown among thorns, who hear the word,
- 19And the worries of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.
- 20And these are those who are sown on good ground, who hear the word, and receive it, and bear fruit, some thirty times as much, some sixty, and some a hundred.
- 21And he said to them, Is a lamp brought to be put under a basket, or under a bed, and not to be set on a lampstand?
- 22For there is nothing hidden that will not be made known. Nothing was kept secret except that it should come to light.
- 23If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.
- 24And he said to them, Pay attention to what you hear. With the measure you measure, it will be measured to you, and more will be given to you who hear.
- 25For whoever has, to him more will be given. Whoever has not, from him will be taken even what he has.
- 26And he said, The kingdom of God is as if a man should cast seed into the ground,
- 27And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he does not know how.
- 28For the earth bears fruit by itself, first the blade, then the ear, after that the full grain in the ear.
- 29But when the grain is ripe, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.
- 30And he said, To what shall we compare the kingdom of God? Or with what comparison shall we compare it?
- 31It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is smaller than all the seeds in the earth.
- 32But when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs, and shoots out great branches, so that the birds of the air may stay under its shadow.
- 33And with many such parables he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear it.
- 34But he did not speak to them without a parable. When they were alone, he explained all things to his disciples.
- 35And the same day, when evening had come, he says to them, Let us cross over to the other side.
- 36And when they had sent away the crowd, they took him just as he was in the boat. Other little boats were also with him.
- 37And a great storm of wind arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was now full.
- 38And he was in the back of the boat, asleep on a pillow. They wake him and say to him, Master, do you not care that we are perishing?
- 39And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind stopped, and there was a great calm.
- 40And he said to them, Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?
- 41And they feared greatly, and said to one another, What kind of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

GIGAKJV is a modern English revision of the King James Version. The comparison below uses the project's KJV text in the later 1769 tradition and marks, word by word, each verse of Mark 4 where the wording differs: struck-through words are the KJV's, highlighted words are GIGAKJV's.
