Mark 14
- 1After two days was the feast of the passover, and of bread made without yeast. And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by trickery, and put him to death.
- 2But they said, Not during the feast, because there may be a disturbance among the people.
- 3And while he was in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, sitting at the table, a woman came with an alabaster flask of very expensive ointment made from pure nard. And she broke the flask, and poured it on his head.
- 4And there were some who had anger within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made?
- 5For it might have been sold for more than three hundred silver coins, and have been given to the poor. And they complained against her.
- 6And Jesus said, Let her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has worked a good work on me.
- 7For you have the poor with you always, and whenever you want you may do them good. But me you have not always.
- 8She has done what she could. She has come beforehand to anoint my body for the burial.
- 9Truly I say to you, Wherever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she has done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.
- 10And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests, to betray him to them.
- 11And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might betray him at a convenient time.
- 12And the first day of bread made without yeast, when they killed the passover, his disciples said to him, Where do you want us to go and prepare, that you may eat the passover?
- 13And he sends out two of his disciples, and says to them, Go into the city, and a man bearing a pitcher of water will meet you. Follow him.
- 14And wherever he shall go in, say to the owner of the house, The Master says, Where is the guest room, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?
- 15And he will show you a large upper room furnished and prepared. There make ready for us.
- 16And his disciples went out, and came into the city, and found it as he had said to them. And they made ready the passover.
- 17And in the evening he comes with the twelve.
- 18And as they sat and ate, Jesus said, Truly I say to you, One of you who eats with me shall betray me.
- 19And they began to be sad, and to say to him one by one, Is it I? And another said, Is it I?
- 20And he answered and said to them, It is one of the twelve, who dips with me in the dish.
- 21The Son of man indeed goes, as it is written of him. But disaster is coming to that man who betrays the Son of man! It would have been good for that man if he had never been born.
- 22And as they ate, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat. This is my body.
- 23And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and they all drank of it.
- 24And he said to them, This is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many.
- 25Truly I say to you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.
- 26And when they had sung a hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
- 27And Jesus said to them, Tonight you will all fall away because of me, for it is written, I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.
- 28But after I have risen, I will go before you into Galilee.
- 29But Peter said to him, Even if everyone else falls away, I will not.
- 30And Jesus says to him, Truly I say to you, This day, even this night, before the rooster crows twice, you shall deny me three times.
- 31But he spoke the more fiercely, If I should die with you, I will not deny you at all. Likewise they all also said.
- 32And they came to a place named Gethsemane, and he says to his disciples, Sit here, while I pray.
- 33And he takes with him Peter and James and John, and began to be greatly distressed, and to be very troubled.
- 34And he says to them, My soul is very sad, even to death. Stay here, and watch.
- 35And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.
- 36And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible to you. Take away this cup from me. But not what I will, but what you will.
- 37And he comes, and finds them sleeping, and says to Peter, Simon, are you sleeping? Could you not watch one hour?
- 38Watch and pray, so that you do not enter into temptation. The spirit is indeed ready, but the flesh is weak.
- 39And again he went away, and prayed, and spoke the same words.
- 40And when he returned, he found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy, and they did not know what to answer him.
- 41And he comes the third time, and says to them, Sleep on now, and take your rest. It is enough. The hour has come. The Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
- 42Rise up, let us go. He who betrays me is near.
- 43And immediately, while he was still speaking, comes Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.
- 44And he who betrayed him had given them a sign, saying, Whoever I shall kiss, that same is he. Take him, and lead him away safely.
- 45And as soon as he had come, he goes immediately to him, and says, Master, master, and kissed him.
- 46And they laid their hands on him, and took him.
- 47And one of those who stood by drew a sword, and struck a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.
- 48And Jesus answered and said to them, Have you come out, as against a thief, with swords and with clubs to take me?
- 49I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and you did not take me. But the scriptures must be fulfilled.
- 50And they all left him, and fled.
- 51And there followed him a young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body. And the young men laid hold on him.
- 52And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.
- 53And they led Jesus away to the high priest, and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.
- 54And Peter followed him at a distance, even into the palace of the high priest. And he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.
- 55And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death, and found none.
- 56For many bore false witness against him, but their witness did not agree together.
- 57And some stood up, and bore false witness against him, saying,
- 58We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another not made with hands.
- 59But not even so did their witness agree together.
- 60And the high priest stood up in the middle, and asked Jesus, saying, Do you answer nothing? What is it that these witness against you?
- 61But he kept silent, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said to him, Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?
- 62And Jesus said, I am. And you shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
- 63Then the high priest tore his clothes, and says, What further need do we have of witnesses?
- 64You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.
- 65And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to beat him, and to say to him, Prophesy. And the servants struck him with the palms of their hands.
- 66And as Peter was below in the palace, one of the maids of the high priest comes.
- 67And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked on him, and said, And you also were with Jesus of Nazareth.
- 68But he denied, saying, I do not know, neither do I understand what you say. And he went out into the porch, and the rooster crowed.
- 69And a maid saw him again, and began to say to those who stood by, This is one of them.
- 70And he denied it again. And a little after, those who stood by said again to Peter, Surely you are one of them. For you are a Galilean, and your speech agrees with it.
- 71But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I do not know this man you speak of.
- 72And the second time the rooster crowed. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said to him, Before the rooster crows twice, you shall deny me three times. And when he thought on it, he wept.
