Mark 5
- 1And they came over to the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.
- 2And when he had come out of the boat, immediately a man with an unclean spirit met him out of the tombs,
- 3Who had his home among the tombs. No one could bind him, not even with chains.
- 4Because he had often been bound with shackles and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces. No one could tame him.
- 5And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.
- 6But when he saw Jesus far away, he ran and worshiped him,
- 7And he cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with you, Jesus, Son of the most high God? I charge you by God, do not torment me.
- 8For he said to him, Come out of the man, you unclean spirit.
- 9And he asked him, What is your name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion. We are many.
- 10And he begged him much that he would not send them away out of the country.
- 11Now there was a great herd of pigs feeding near the mountains.
- 12And all the demons begged him, saying, Send us into the pigs, that we may enter into them.
- 13And immediately Jesus gave them permission. The unclean spirits went out and entered the pigs. The herd ran violently down the steep bank into the sea. They were about two thousand, and they drowned in the sea.
- 14And those who fed the pigs fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done.
- 15They come to Jesus, and see the man who had been possessed with the demon, who had the legion, sitting, clothed, and in his right mind. And they were afraid.
- 16And those who saw it told them how it happened to him who had been possessed with the demon, and also concerning the pigs.
- 17And they began to beg him to leave their region.
- 18And when he had come into the boat, he who had been possessed with the demon begged him that he might be with him.
- 19But Jesus did not allow him, and says to him, Go home to your friends, and tell them what giga things the Lord has done for you, and how he has had compassion on you.
- 20And he left, and began to tell in Decapolis what great things Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.
- 21And when Jesus had crossed again by boat to the other side, a great crowd gathered to him, and he was near the sea.
- 22Then one of the rulers of the synagogue comes, Jairus by name, and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,
- 23And begged him greatly, saying, My little daughter is at the point of death. I pray you, come and lay your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live.
- 24And Jesus went with him. A great crowd followed him, and pressed around him.
- 25And a woman who had a bleeding condition for twelve years,
- 26And had suffered many things from many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better, but rather grew worse,
- 27When she had heard of Jesus, came in the crowd behind, and touched his garment.
- 28For she said, If I may touch even his clothes, I will be made well.
- 29And immediately the flow of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of that disease.
- 30And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that power had gone out of him, turned around in the crowd and said, Who touched my clothes?
- 31And his disciples said to him, You see the crowd pressing you, and do you say, Who touched me?
- 32And he looked around to see her who had done this thing.
- 33But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.
- 34And he said to her, Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your disease.
- 35While he was still speaking, some came from the ruler of the synagogue's house who said, Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Master any further?
- 36As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he says to the ruler of the synagogue, Do not be afraid, only believe.
- 37And he let no one follow him except Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.
- 38He comes to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and sees the uproar, and those who wept and wailed loudly.
- 39And when he had come in, he says to them, Why do you make this commotion and weep? The girl is not dead, but sleeps.
- 40And they laughed at him. But when he had put them all out, he takes the father and the mother of the girl, and those who were with him, and goes in where the girl was lying.
- 41And he took the girl by the hand, and said to her, Talitha cumi, which means, Girl, I say to you, get up.
- 42And immediately the girl got up and walked, for she was twelve years old. And they were completely amazed.
- 43And he charged them strictly that no one should know it, and commanded that something should be given her to eat.
