Mark 10
- 1He rose from there and comes into the regions of Judea by the farther side of the Jordan. The people gather to him again, and as he was accustomed, he taught them again.
- 2And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife? They were testing him.
- 3And he answered and said to them, What did Moses command you?
- 4And they said, Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce, and to divorce her.
- 5And Jesus answered and said to them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this command.
- 6But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.
- 7For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, and cling to his wife.
- 8And the two shall be one flesh. So then they are no more two, but one flesh.
- 9What therefore God has joined together, do not let man separate.
- 10And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter.
- 11And he says to them, Whoever divorces his wife, and marries another, commits adultery against her.
- 12And if a woman divorces her husband, and is married to another, she commits adultery.
- 13And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them. And his disciples rebuked those who brought them.
- 14But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said to them, Let the little children come to me, and do not forbid them. For of such is the kingdom of God.
- 15Truly I say to you, Whoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter it.
- 16And he took them up in his arms, put his hands on them, and blessed them.
- 17And when he had gone out on the way, one came running, and knelt to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?
- 18And Jesus said to him, Why do you call me good? There is none good but one, that is, God.
- 19You know the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not cheat, Honor your father and mother.
- 20And he answered and said to him, Master, all these I have observed from my youth.
- 21Then Jesus looking at him loved him, and said to him, One thing you lack. Go your way, sell whatever you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven. And come, take up the cross, and follow me.
- 22And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved. For he had great possessions.
- 23And Jesus looked around, and says to his disciples, How hard it is for those who have riches to enter into the kingdom of God!
- 24And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answers again, and says to them, Children, how hard is it for those who trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!
- 25It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
- 26And they were astonished beyond measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved?
- 27And Jesus looking on them says, With men it is impossible, but not with God. For with God all things are possible.
- 28Then Peter began to say to him, We have left all, and have followed you.
- 29And Jesus answered and said, Truly I say to you, There is no one who has left house, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's,
- 30But he shall receive a hundred times as much now in this time, houses, and brothers, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions, and in the world to come eternal life.
- 31But many who are first shall be last, and the last first.
- 32And they were on the way going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus went before them. They were amazed, and as they followed, they were afraid. And he took the twelve again, and began to tell them what things should happen to him,
- 33Saying, We go up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man shall be delivered to the chief priests, and to the scribes. They shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles.
- 34And they shall mock him, and shall whip him, and shall spit on him, and shall kill him. And the third day he shall rise again.
- 35And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, come to him, saying, Master, we want you to do for us whatever we ask.
- 36And he said to them, What do you want me to do for you?
- 37They said to him, Grant to us that we may sit, one on your right hand, and the other on your left hand, in your glory.
- 38But Jesus said to them, You do not know what you ask. Can you drink of the cup that I drink of, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?
- 39They said to him, We can. Jesus said to them, You will indeed drink from the cup I drink from, and you will be baptized with the baptism I undergo.
- 40But to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine to give, but it shall be given to those it has been prepared for.
- 41And when the ten heard it, they began to be much displeased with James and John.
- 42But Jesus called them to him, and says to them, You know that those who are accounted to rule over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.
- 43But it shall not be so among you. But whoever wants to be great among you shall be your servant.
- 44And whoever of you wants to be first shall be servant of all.
- 45For even the Son of man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.
- 46And they came to Jericho. And as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the roadside begging.
- 47And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, you son of David, have mercy on me.
- 48And many charged him that he should be silent. But he cried out all the more, You son of David, have mercy on me.
- 49And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying to him, Take courage and get up. He is calling you.
- 50And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.
- 51And Jesus answered and said to him, What do you want me to do for you? The blind man said to him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.
- 52And Jesus said to him, Go your way. Your faith has made you well. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus on the way.
