Hebrews 4
- 1So let us fear that any of you might seem to fall short of the promise of entering his rest, which still remains.
- 2For the gospel was preached to us, as well as to them. But the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.
- 3For we who have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest. Although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
- 4For he spoke somewhere of the seventh day in this way, And God rested the seventh day from all his works.
- 5And in this place again, They shall not enter into my rest.
- 6So then it remains that some must enter it, and those it was first preached to did not enter because of disobedience.
- 7Again, he sets a specific day, saying in David, Today, after so long a time, as it is said, Today if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.
- 8For if Joshua had given them rest, then he would not afterward have spoken of another day.
- 9There remains therefore a Sabbath rest to the people of God.
- 10For he who has entered into his rest, he also has rested from his own works, as God did from his.
- 11So let us make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one falls by following the same example of disobedience.
- 12For the word of God is living, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing apart of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and judges the thoughts and intents of the heart.
- 13Neither is there any creature that is hidden from his sight. All things are naked and opened to the eyes of the one we must give an account to.
- 14Seeing then that we have a great high priest, who has passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
- 15For we do not have a high priest who cannot be touched with the feeling of our weaknesses, but one who was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
- 16Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
What changed from the KJV
GIGAKJV is a modern English revision of the King James Version. The comparison below uses the project's KJV text in the later 1769 tradition and marks, word by word, each verse of Hebrews 4 where the wording differs: struck-through words are the KJV's, highlighted words are GIGAKJV's.
KJVLet us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
GIGAKJVSo let us fear that any of you might seem to fall short of the promise of entering his rest, which still remains.
KJVFor unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
GIGAKJVFor the gospel was preached to us, as well as to them. But the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.
KJVFor we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
GIGAKJVFor we who have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest. Although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
KJVFor he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
GIGAKJVFor he spoke somewhere of the seventh day in this way, And God rested the seventh day from all his works.
KJVAnd in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.
GIGAKJVAnd in this place again, They shall not enter into my rest.
KJVSeeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
GIGAKJVSo then it remains that some must enter it, and those it was first preached to did not enter because of disobedience.
KJVAgain, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
GIGAKJVAgain, he sets a specific day, saying in David, Today, after so long a time, as it is said, Today if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.
KJVFor if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
GIGAKJVFor if Joshua had given them rest, then he would not afterward have spoken of another day.
KJVThere remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
GIGAKJVThere remains therefore a Sabbath rest to the people of God.
KJVFor he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
GIGAKJVFor he who has entered into his rest, he also has rested from his own works, as God did from his.
KJVLet us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
GIGAKJVSo let us make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one falls by following the same example of disobedience.
KJVFor the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
GIGAKJVFor the word of God is living, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing apart of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and judges the thoughts and intents of the heart.
KJVNeither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
GIGAKJVNeither is there any creature that is hidden from his sight. All things are naked and opened to the eyes of the one we must give an account to.
KJVSeeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
GIGAKJVSeeing then that we have a great high priest, who has passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
KJVFor we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
GIGAKJVFor we do not have a high priest who cannot be touched with the feeling of our weaknesses, but one who was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
KJVLet us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
GIGAKJVLet us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
