Hebrews 2
- 1So we must pay closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.
- 2For if the word spoken by angels was firm, and every wrong act and disobedience received a just repayment,
- 3How shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard him,
- 4God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to his own will?
- 5For he has not put the world to come, of which we speak, under the control of angels.
- 6But someone testified somewhere, saying, What is man, that you are mindful of him? Or the son of man, that you look after him?
- 7You made him a little lower than the angels. You crowned him with glory and honor, and set him over the works of your hands.
- 8You have put all things under his feet. For in putting everything under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we do not yet see all things put under him.
- 9But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor, that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.
- 10For all things are for him and through him, and it was fitting for him, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
- 11For both he who sanctifies and they who are sanctified are all of one. For this reason he is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters,
- 12Saying, I will declare your name to my brothers and sisters. In the middle of the church I will sing praise to you.
- 13And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Here I am, and the children God has given me.
- 14Since then the children share in flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same, that through death he might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,
- 15And deliver those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
- 16For surely he does not help angels, but he helps Abraham's descendants.
- 17Therefore in all things he had to be made like his brothers and sisters, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things having to do with God, to make atonement for the sins of the people.
- 18For because he himself has suffered being tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted.
What changed from the KJV
GIGAKJV is a modern English revision of the King James Version. The comparison below uses the project's KJV text in the later 1769 tradition and marks, word by word, each verse of Hebrews 2 where the wording differs: struck-through words are the KJV's, highlighted words are GIGAKJV's.
KJVTherefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.
GIGAKJVSo we must pay closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.
KJVFor if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;
GIGAKJVFor if the word spoken by angels was firm, and every wrong act and disobedience received a just repayment,
KJVHow shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;
GIGAKJVHow shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard him,
KJVGod also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?
GIGAKJVGod also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to his own will?
KJVFor unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak.
GIGAKJVFor he has not put the world to come, of which we speak, under the control of angels.
KJVBut one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man that thou visitest him?
GIGAKJVBut someone testified somewhere, saying, What is man, that you are mindful of him? Or the son of man, that you look after him?
KJVThou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands:
GIGAKJVYou made him a little lower than the angels. You crowned him with glory and honor, and set him over the works of your hands.
KJVThou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.
GIGAKJVYou have put all things under his feet. For in putting everything under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we do not yet see all things put under him.
KJVBut we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

KJVFor it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
GIGAKJVFor all things are for him and through him, and it was fitting for him, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
KJVFor both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,
GIGAKJVFor both he who sanctifies and they who are sanctified are all of one. For this reason he is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters,
KJVSaying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee.
GIGAKJVSaying, I will declare your name to my brothers and sisters. In the middle of the church I will sing praise to you.
KJVAnd again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me.
GIGAKJVAnd again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Here I am, and the children God has given me.

GIGAKJVSince then the children share in flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same, that through death he might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,
KJVAnd deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
GIGAKJVAnd deliver those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

KJVWherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.
GIGAKJVTherefore in all things he had to be made like his brothers and sisters, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things having to do with God, to make atonement for the sins of the people.
KJVFor in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.
GIGAKJVFor because he himself has suffered being tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted.
