2 Corinthians 2
- 1But I determined this with myself, that I would not come again to you in sadness.
- 2For if I make you sorry, who is he then that makes me glad, but the same who is made sorry by me?
- 3I wrote this to you so that, when I came, I would not receive sorrow from those who ought to give me joy. I am confident of you all, that my joy is the joy of all of you.
- 4For out of much suffering and anguish of heart I wrote to you with many tears, not that you should be grieved, but that you might know the love which I have more abundantly to you.
- 5But if any have caused grief, he has not grieved me, but in part, that I may not overcharge you all.
- 6Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted of many.
- 7Instead, you should forgive him and comfort him, so that he is not swallowed up by excessive sorrow.
- 8Therefore I urge you that you would confirm your love toward him.
- 9To this end also I wrote, that I might know the proof of you, whether you are obedient in all things.
- 10If you forgive someone anything, I forgive that person too. For if I have forgiven anything, whoever I forgave, I did so for your sake in the person of Christ.
- 11So that Satan does not gain an advantage over us, for we are not ignorant of his plans.
- 12Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ's gospel, and a door was opened to me of the Lord,
- 13I had no rest in my spirit, because I did not find Titus my brother. But taking my leave of them, I went from there into Macedonia.
- 14Now thanks be to God, who always causes us to triumph in Christ, and reveals the aroma of his knowledge by us in every place.
- 15For we are to God a sweet aroma of Christ, in those who are saved, and in those who perish.
- 16To the one we are the aroma of death to death, and to the other the aroma of life to life. And who is sufficient for these things?
- 17For we are not as many, who corrupt the word of God, but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.
What changed from the KJV
GIGAKJV is a modern English revision of the King James Version. The comparison below uses the project's KJV text in the later 1769 tradition and marks, word by word, each verse of 2 Corinthians 2 where the wording differs: struck-through words are the KJV's, highlighted words are GIGAKJV's.
KJVBut I determined this with myself, that I would not come again to you in heaviness.
GIGAKJVBut I determined this with myself, that I would not come again to you in sadness.
KJVFor if I make you sorry, who is he then that maketh me glad, but the same which is made sorry by me?
GIGAKJVFor if I make you sorry, who is he then that makes me glad, but the same who is made sorry by me?
KJVAnd I wrote this same unto you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all.
GIGAKJVI wrote this to you so that, when I came, I would not receive sorrow from those who ought to give me joy. I am confident of you all, that my joy is the joy of all of you.
KJVFor out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you.
GIGAKJVFor out of much suffering and anguish of heart I wrote to you with many tears, not that you should be grieved, but that you might know the love which I have more abundantly to you.
KJVBut if any have caused grief, he hath not grieved me, but in part: that I may not overcharge you all.
GIGAKJVBut if any have caused grief, he has not grieved me, but in part, that I may not overcharge you all.
KJVSo that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.
GIGAKJVInstead, you should forgive him and comfort him, so that he is not swallowed up by excessive sorrow.
KJVWherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm your love toward him.
GIGAKJVTherefore I urge you that you would confirm your love toward him.
KJVFor to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.
GIGAKJVTo this end also I wrote, that I might know the proof of you, whether you are obedient in all things.
KJVTo whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;
GIGAKJVIf you forgive someone anything, I forgive that person too. For if I have forgiven anything, whoever I forgave, I did so for your sake in the person of Christ.
KJVLest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
GIGAKJVSo that Satan does not gain an advantage over us, for we are not ignorant of his plans.
KJVFurthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ's gospel, and a door was opened unto me of the Lord,
GIGAKJVFurthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ's gospel, and a door was opened to me of the Lord,
KJVI had no rest in my spirit, because I found not Titus my brother: but taking my leave of them, I went from thence into Macedonia.
GIGAKJVI had no rest in my spirit, because I did not find Titus my brother. But taking my leave of them, I went from there into Macedonia.
KJVNow thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.
GIGAKJVNow thanks be to God, who always causes us to triumph in Christ, and reveals the aroma of his knowledge by us in every place.
KJVFor we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:
GIGAKJVFor we are to God a sweet aroma of Christ, in those who are saved, and in those who perish.
KJVTo the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?
GIGAKJVTo the one we are the aroma of death to death, and to the other the aroma of life to life. And who is sufficient for these things?
KJVFor we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.
GIGAKJVFor we are not as many, who corrupt the word of God, but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.
