Acts 2
- 1When the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
- 2And suddenly there came a sound from heaven like a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
- 3And there appeared to them divided tongues like fire, and it sat on each of them.
- 4And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them the words.
- 5And there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven.
- 6When this was heard abroad, the crowd came together and were confused, because every man heard them speak in his own language.
- 7And they were all amazed and full of wonder, saying to one another, Are not all these who speak Galileans?
- 8And how is it that we each hear in our own language, in which we were born?
- 9Parthians, Medes, and Elamites, and those who live in Mesopotamia, in Judea and Cappadocia, in Pontus and Asia,
- 10Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and in the parts of Libya around Cyrene, and people from Rome, Jews and proselytes,
- 11Cretans and Arabians, we hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
- 12And they were all amazed, and puzzled, saying to one another, What does this mean?
- 13Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.
- 14But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice and said to them, You men of Judea, and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to my words.
- 15These men are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day.
- 16But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel.
- 17In the last days, says God, I will pour out of my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.
- 18And on my servants and on my female servants I will pour out of my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.
- 19And I will show wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath, blood and fire and vapor of smoke.
- 20The sun will be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord comes.
- 21And whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
- 22You men of Israel, hear these words. Jesus of Nazareth was a man approved by God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him among you, as you yourselves also know.
- 23This man was delivered up by the determined counsel and foreknowledge of God. You have taken him, and by wicked hands have crucified and killed him.
- 24God has raised him up, having set him free from the pains of death, because it was not possible that he should be held by it.
- 25For David speaks concerning him, I saw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved.
- 26Therefore my heart rejoiced, and my tongue was glad. My flesh also will rest in hope.
- 27Because you will not leave my soul in hell, neither will you let your Holy One see decay.
- 28You have made known to me the ways of life. You will make me full of joy with your face.
- 29Brothers, I can speak freely to you of the patriarch David. He is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.
- 30Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that from one of his descendants, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne,
- 31He saw this beforehand and spoke of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither did his flesh see decay.
- 32This Jesus God has raised up, of which we all are witnesses.
- 33Therefore being lifted high to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this, which you now see and hear.
- 34For David has not ascended into the heavens, but he says himself, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit on my right hand,
- 35Until I make your enemies your footstool.
- 36Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made this same Jesus, who you crucified, both Lord and Christ.
- 37Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Brothers, what shall we do?
- 38Then Peter said to them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
- 39For the promise is to you, and to your children, and to all who are far away, as many as the Lord our God will call.
- 40And with many other words he testified and urged them, saying, Save yourselves from this crooked generation.
- 41Then those who gladly received his word were baptized. And the same day about three thousand souls were added to them.
- 42And they kept on faithfully in the apostles' teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.
- 43And fear came on every soul. And many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.
- 44And all who believed were together, and had all things in common.
- 45And they sold their possessions and goods, and divided them to all, as every man had need.
- 46And continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with happiness and singleness of heart,
- 47Praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.
