Revelation 2
- 1To the angel of the church of Ephesus write. This is what he who holds the seven stars in his right hand, who walks in the middle of the seven golden lampstands, says:
- 2I know your works, your labor, and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear those who are evil. You have tested those who say they are apostles, and are not, and have found them liars.
- 3You have borne it, and have patient endurance, and have labored for my name's sake, and have not grown weary.
- 4But I have this against you, that you have left your first love.
- 5So remember from where you have fallen, and repent, and do the first works. Or else I will come to you quickly, and will remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.
- 6But this you have, that you hate the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate.
- 7He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the middle of the paradise of God.
- 8And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write. This is what the first and the last, who was dead, and is alive, says:
- 9I know your works, and trouble, and poverty, but you are rich. I know the blasphemy of those who say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.
- 10Do not fear any of those things which you will suffer. The devil will throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have trouble ten days. Be faithful to death, and I will give you a crown of life.
- 11He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes will not be hurt by the second death.
- 12And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write. This is what he who has the sharp sword with two edges says:
- 13I know your works, and where you live, even where Satan's throne is. You hold fast my name, and have not denied my faith, even in those days when Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was killed among you, where Satan lives.
- 14But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality.
- 15So you also have those who hold the teaching of the Nicolaitanes, which I hate.
- 16Repent. Or else I will come to you quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.
- 17He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give hidden manna to eat. I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written, which no one knows except he who receives it.
- 18And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write. This is what the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and whose feet are like fine bronze, says:
- 19I know your works, and love, and service, and faith, and your patient endurance, and your works, and the last are more than the first.
- 20But I have a few things against you, because you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit sexual immorality, and to eat things sacrificed to idols.
- 21And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent.
- 22I will cast her into a bed, and those who commit adultery with her into great suffering, unless they repent of their deeds.
- 23I will kill her children with death. All the churches will know that I am he who searches the inner being and the hearts. I will give to each of you according to your works.
- 24But to you I say, and to the rest in Thyatira, as many as do not have this teaching, and who have not known the depths of Satan, as they call them, I will put on you no other burden.
- 25But hold fast what you already have until I come.
- 26And he who overcomes, and keeps my works to the end, to him I will give power over the nations.
- 27He will rule them with a rod of iron. They will be smashed like clay pots, even as I received from my Father.
- 28And I will give him the morning star.
- 29He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
What changed from the KJV
GIGAKJV is a modern English revision of the King James Version. The comparison below uses the project's KJV text in the later 1769 tradition and marks, word by word, each verse of Revelation 2 where the wording differs: struck-through words are the KJV's, highlighted words are GIGAKJV's.
KJVUnto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;
GIGAKJVTo the angel of the church of Ephesus write. This is what he who holds the seven stars in his right hand, who walks in the middle of the seven golden lampstands, says:
KJVI know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
GIGAKJVI know your works, your labor, and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear those who are evil. You have tested those who say they are apostles, and are not, and have found them liars.
KJVAnd hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.
GIGAKJVYou have borne it, and have patient endurance, and have labored for my name's sake, and have not grown weary.
KJVNevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.
GIGAKJVBut I have this against you, that you have left your first love.
KJVRemember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.
GIGAKJVSo remember from where you have fallen, and repent, and do the first works. Or else I will come to you quickly, and will remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.
KJVBut this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate.
GIGAKJVBut this you have, that you hate the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate.
KJVHe that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
GIGAKJVHe who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the middle of the paradise of God.
KJVAnd unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive;
GIGAKJVAnd to the angel of the church in Smyrna write. This is what the first and the last, who was dead, and is alive, says:
KJVI know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.
GIGAKJVI know your works, and trouble, and poverty, but you are rich. I know the blasphemy of those who say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.
KJVFear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
GIGAKJVDo not fear any of those things which you will suffer. The devil will throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have trouble ten days. Be faithful to death, and I will give you a crown of life.
KJVHe that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.
GIGAKJVHe who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes will not be hurt by the second death.
KJVAnd to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges;
GIGAKJVAnd to the angel of the church in Pergamos write. This is what he who has the sharp sword with two edges says:
KJVI know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan's seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.
GIGAKJVI know your works, and where you live, even where Satan's throne is. You hold fast my name, and have not denied my faith, even in those days when Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was killed among you, where Satan lives.
KJVBut I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.
GIGAKJVBut I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality.
KJVSo hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate.
GIGAKJVSo you also have those who hold the teaching of the Nicolaitanes, which I hate.
KJVRepent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.
GIGAKJVRepent. Or else I will come to you quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.
KJVHe that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.
GIGAKJVHe who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give hidden manna to eat. I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written, which no one knows except he who receives it.
KJVAnd unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass;
GIGAKJVAnd to the angel of the church in Thyatira write. This is what the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and whose feet are like fine bronze, says:
KJVI know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first.
GIGAKJVI know your works, and love, and service, and faith, and your patient endurance, and your works, and the last are more than the first.
KJVNotwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.
GIGAKJVBut I have a few things against you, because you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit sexual immorality, and to eat things sacrificed to idols.
KJVAnd I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.
GIGAKJVAnd I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent.
KJVBehold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.
GIGAKJVI will cast her into a bed, and those who commit adultery with her into great suffering, unless they repent of their deeds.
KJVAnd I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.
GIGAKJVI will kill her children with death. All the churches will know that I am he who searches the inner being and the hearts. I will give to each of you according to your works.
KJVBut unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden.
GIGAKJVBut to you I say, and to the rest in Thyatira, as many as do not have this teaching, and who have not known the depths of Satan, as they call them, I will put on you no other burden.
KJVBut that which ye have already hold fast till I come.
GIGAKJVBut hold fast what you already have until I come.
KJVAnd he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
GIGAKJVAnd he who overcomes, and keeps my works to the end, to him I will give power over the nations.
KJVAnd he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.
GIGAKJVHe will rule them with a rod of iron. They will be smashed like clay pots, even as I received from my Father.
KJVHe that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
GIGAKJVHe who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
