Proverbs 5
- 1My son, attend to my wisdom, and bow your ear to my understanding:
- 2That you may regard discretion, and that your lips may keep knowledge.
- 3For the lips of a sexually immoral woman drip honey, and her mouth is smoother than oil:
- 4But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.
- 5Her feet go down to death. Her steps take hold on hell.
- 6She gives no thought to the path of life. Her ways stray, and she does not realize it.
- 7So listen to me now, children, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth.
- 8Keep your path far from her, and do not go near the door of her house:
- 9Otherwise, you may give your honor to others and your years to the cruel.
- 10Otherwise, strangers may be filled with your wealth, and what you labored for may end up in a stranger's house.
- 11And you mourn at the end, when your flesh and your body are consumed,
- 12And say, How I hated instruction! How my heart despised correction!
- 13I did not obey the voice of my teachers or listen to those who instructed me!
- 14I was almost in all evil among the congregation and assembly.
- 15Drink waters out of your own cistern, and running waters out of your own well.
- 16Let your fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.
- 17Let them be only your own, and not strangers' with you.
- 18Let your fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of your youth.
- 19Let her be like a loving doe and a graceful gazelle. Let her breasts satisfy you at all times, and always be captivated by her love.
- 20And why, my son, should you be captivated by a sexually immoral woman and embrace an unfaithful woman?
- 21For a man's ways are before the eyes of the Lord, and he weighs all his paths.
- 22His own wrongdoings shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be held with the cords of his sins.
- 23He shall die without instruction. In the greatness of his foolishness he shall go astray.
