Proverbs 22
- 1A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold.
- 2The rich and poor meet together: the Lord is the maker of them all.
- 3A sensible man sees danger ahead and hides himself, but the inexperienced go on and suffer for it.
- 4By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honor, and life.
- 5Thorns and snares are in the way of the crooked: he who does keep his soul shall be far from them.
- 6Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not turn from it.
- 7The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.
- 8He who sows wrongdoing shall reap trouble: and the rod of his anger shall fail.
- 9He who has a bountiful eye shall be blessed. For he gives of his bread to the poor.
- 10Cast out the mocker, and quarreling shall go out. Yes, arguing and insults shall stop.
- 11He who loves pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.
- 12The eyes of the Lord preserve knowledge, and he overthrows the words of the rebel.
- 13The lazy man says, There is a lion outside, I shall be killed in the streets.
- 14The mouth of sexually immoral women is a deep pit. The one under the Lord's anger shall fall into it.
- 15Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child. But the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
- 16He who oppresses the poor to increase his riches, and he who gives to the rich, shall surely come to poverty.
- 17Bow down your ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my knowledge.
- 18For it is pleasant if you keep them within you. They will also be ready on your lips.
- 19That your trust may be in the Lord, I have made known to you this day, even to you.
- 20Have I not written to you excellent things in plans and knowledge,
- 21That I might make you know the certainty of the words of truth, so that you might answer the words of truth to those who send to you?
- 22Do not rob the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the suffering in the gate:
- 23For the Lord will plead their cause, and take the life of those who plundered them.
- 24Make no friendship with an angry man. With a furious man you shall not go:
- 25Otherwise, you may learn his ways and set a trap for your own soul.
- 26Do not be one of those who strike hands, or of those who guarantee debts.
- 27If you have nothing to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you?
- 28Do not remove the ancient boundary marker, which your fathers have set.
- 29Do you see a man skilled in his work? He shall stand before kings. He shall not stand before obscure men.
