1 Peter 4
- 1Since then Christ has suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind. For he who has suffered in the flesh is done with sin,
- 2so that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the desires of men, but to the will of God.
- 3For the time past of our life may suffice us to have worked the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in indecency, desires, excess of wine, wild parties, drinking bouts, and disgusting idolatries.
- 4In which they think it strange that you do not run with them to the same flood of reckless living, speaking evil of you.
- 5They shall give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
- 6For this reason the gospel was also preached to the dead, so that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
- 7But the end of all things is near. So be self-controlled and alert for prayer.
- 8And above all things have deep love among yourselves. For love shall cover a great number of sins.
- 9Show hospitality to one another without grumbling.
- 10As each person has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's grace in its many forms.
- 11If anyone speaks, let him speak as the words of God. If anyone serves, let him do it with the strength which God gives, that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to him be praise and power forever and ever. Amen.
- 12Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you.
- 13But rejoice, since you are sharers in Christ's sufferings, that, when his glory shall be revealed, you may be glad also with great joy.
- 14If you are insulted for the name of Christ, happy are you. For the spirit of glory and of God rests on you. On their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.
- 15But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.
- 16Yet if any man suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God on this behalf.
- 17For the time has come that judgment must begin at the house of God. And if it first begins at us, what shall the end be of those who do not obey the gospel of God?
- 18And if the righteous are scarcely saved, where shall the godless and the sinner appear?
- 19Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God entrust their souls to him as to a faithful Creator, while doing good.
What changed from the KJV
GIGAKJV is a modern English revision of the King James Version. The comparison below uses the project's KJV text in the later 1769 tradition and marks, word by word, each verse of 1 Peter 4 where the wording differs: struck-through words are the KJV's, highlighted words are GIGAKJV's.
