1 Peter 3
- 1Likewise, you wives, submit to your own husbands, that, if any does not obey the word, they also may without a word be won by the conduct of the wives,
- 2as they observe your pure conduct and reverence.
- 3Do not let your beauty be the outward beauty of braided hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of clothing.
- 4But let it be the hidden person of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
- 5For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, made themselves beautiful, submitting to their own husbands,
- 6even as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose daughters you are, as long as you do well, and are not afraid with any terror.
- 7Likewise, you husbands, live with them according to knowledge, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers are not hindered.
- 8Finally, be all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brothers and sisters, be compassionate, be courteous.
- 9Do not pay back evil for evil, or insult for insult, but on the contrary bless, knowing that you are called to this, that you should inherit a blessing.
- 10For the one who wants to love life, and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking deceit.
- 11Let him turn from evil, and do good. Let him seek peace, and pursue it.
- 12For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayers. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.
- 13And who is he who will harm you, if you are imitators of what is good?
- 14But even if you suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are you. And do not be afraid of their terror, neither be troubled.
- 15But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and be ready always to give an answer to every man who asks you a reason of the hope that is in you with gentleness and fear,
- 16having a good conscience, that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conduct in Christ.
- 17For it is better, if it is God's will, that you suffer for doing good, than for doing evil.
- 18For Christ also has once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive by the Spirit.
- 19By which also he went and preached to the spirits in prison,
- 20who were once disobedient, when once the patience of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
- 21Baptism, which corresponds to this, also now saves us—not the removal of dirt from the body, but the answer of a good conscience toward God—through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
- 22He has gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers being made subject to him.
What changed from the KJV
GIGAKJV is a modern English revision of the King James Version. The comparison below uses the project's KJV text in the later 1769 tradition and marks, word by word, each verse of 1 Peter 3 where the wording differs: struck-through words are the KJV's, highlighted words are GIGAKJV's.
KJVLikewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
