Philippians 2
- 1Therefore, if there is any encouragement in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion,
- 2Make my joy complete by being of the same mind, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
- 3Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or empty pride, but in lowliness of mind let each value others better than themselves.
- 4Let each person look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
- 5Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus,
- 6who, being in the form of God, did not think it robbery to be equal with God.
- 7But he emptied himself, and took on him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.
- 8And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient to death, even the death of the cross.
- 9Therefore God also has lifted him up very high, and given him a name which is above every name,
- 10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth,
- 11and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
- 12Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
- 13For it is God who works in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
- 14Do all things without complaining and arguing.
- 15That you may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the middle of a crooked and twisted generation, and among them you shine as lights in the world.
- 16Holding out the word of life, that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither labored in vain.
- 17Yes, and if I am poured out as an offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad, and rejoice with you all.
- 18For the same reason, you also should be glad and rejoice with me.
- 19But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy shortly to you, that I also may be encouraged when I learn how you are doing.
- 20For I have no man like-minded, who will sincerely care about how you are doing.
- 21For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ's.
- 22But you know the proof of him, that as a son with the father, he has served with me in the gospel.
- 23Him therefore I hope to send immediately, as soon as I shall see how it will go with me.
- 24But I trust in the Lord that I also myself shall come shortly.
- 25Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labor, and fellow soldier, but your messenger, and he who ministered to my needs.
- 26For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because you had heard that he had been sick.
- 27Indeed, he was sick and near death. But God had mercy on him, and on me too, so that I would not have sorrow added to sorrow.
- 28I sent him therefore the more eagerly, that when you see him again, you may rejoice, and that I may be the less sad.
- 29Receive him therefore in the Lord with all joy, and honor people like him.
- 30Because for the work of Christ he was near to death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.
What changed from the KJV
GIGAKJV is a modern English revision of the King James Version. The comparison below uses the project's KJV text in the later 1769 tradition and marks, word by word, each verse of Philippians 2 where the wording differs: struck-through words are the KJV's, highlighted words are GIGAKJV's.
KJVIf there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,
GIGAKJVTherefore, if there is any encouragement in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion,
KJVFulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
GIGAKJVMake my joy complete by being of the same mind, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
KJVLet nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
GIGAKJVLet nothing be done through selfish ambition or empty pride, but in lowliness of mind let each value others better than themselves.
KJVLook not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
GIGAKJVLet each person look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
KJVLet this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
GIGAKJVLet this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus,
KJVWho, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
GIGAKJVwho, being in the form of God, did not think it robbery to be equal with God.
KJVBut made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
GIGAKJVBut he emptied himself, and took on him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.
KJVAnd being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
GIGAKJVAnd being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient to death, even the death of the cross.
KJVWherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
GIGAKJVTherefore God also has lifted him up very high, and given him a name which is above every name,
KJVThat at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
GIGAKJVthat at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth,
KJVAnd that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
GIGAKJVand that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
KJVWherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
GIGAKJVTherefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
KJVFor it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
GIGAKJVFor it is God who works in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
KJVDo all things without murmurings and disputings:
GIGAKJVDo all things without complaining and arguing.
KJVThat ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
GIGAKJVThat you may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the middle of a crooked and twisted generation, and among them you shine as lights in the world.
KJVHolding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.
GIGAKJVHolding out the word of life, that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither labored in vain.
KJVYea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all.
GIGAKJVYes, and if I am poured out as an offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad, and rejoice with you all.
KJVFor the same cause also do ye joy, and rejoice with me.
GIGAKJVFor the same reason, you also should be glad and rejoice with me.
KJVBut I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state.
GIGAKJVBut I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy shortly to you, that I also may be encouraged when I learn how you are doing.
KJVFor I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state.
GIGAKJVFor I have no man like-minded, who will sincerely care about how you are doing.
KJVBut ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel.
GIGAKJVBut you know the proof of him, that as a son with the father, he has served with me in the gospel.
KJVHim therefore I hope to send presently, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me.
GIGAKJVHim therefore I hope to send immediately, as soon as I shall see how it will go with me.
KJVYet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellowsoldier, but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants.
GIGAKJVYet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labor, and fellow soldier, but your messenger, and he who ministered to my needs.
KJVFor he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick.
GIGAKJVFor he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because you had heard that he had been sick.
KJVFor indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.
GIGAKJVIndeed, he was sick and near death. But God had mercy on him, and on me too, so that I would not have sorrow added to sorrow.
KJVI sent him therefore the more carefully, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful.
GIGAKJVI sent him therefore the more eagerly, that when you see him again, you may rejoice, and that I may be the less sad.
KJVReceive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in reputation:
GIGAKJVReceive him therefore in the Lord with all joy, and honor people like him.
KJVBecause for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.
GIGAKJVBecause for the work of Christ he was near to death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.
