Jeremiah 19
- 1The Lord says this, Go and get a potter's clay bottle, and take of the elders of the people, and of the elders of the priests.
- 2And go out to the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the east gate, and proclaim there the words that I shall tell you,
- 3And say, Hear the word of the Lord, O kings of Judah, and people of Jerusalem. The Lord of Hosts says this, the God of Israel. I will bring evil on this place, which whoever hears, his ears shall tingle.
- 4Because they have abandoned me, and have estranged this place, and have burned incense in it to other gods that they, their fathers, and the kings of Judah have never known, and have filled this place with the blood of innocents.
- 5They have built also the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings to Baal, which I did not command, or speak, and it did not come into my mind:
- 6Therefore, the days come, says the Lord, that this place shall no more be called Tophet, or The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of slaughter.
- 7And I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place. And I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hands of those who seek their lives: and their dead bodies will I give to be food for the birds of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth.
- 8And I will make this city a ruin, and a hissing. Every one that passes by it shall be astonished and hiss because of all its plagues.
- 9And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend in the siege and distress, with which their enemies, and those who seek their lives, shall put them in distress.
- 10Then you shall break the bottle in the sight of the men who go with you,
- 11And shall say to them, The Lord of Hosts says this. Even so I will break this people and this city, as one breaks a clay pot, that cannot be made whole again: and they shall bury them in Tophet, till there is no place to bury.
- 12So I will do to this place, says the Lord, and to its people, and even make this city as Tophet:
- 13And the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, shall be defiled as the place of Tophet, because of all the houses on whose roofs they have burned incense to all the host of heaven, and have poured out drink offerings to other gods.
- 14Then Jeremiah came from Tophet, where the Lord had sent him to prophesy. And he stood in the court of the Lord's house. And said to all the people,
- 15The Lord of Hosts says this, the God of Israel. I will bring on this city and on all her towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have hardened their necks, that they might not hear my words.
What changed from the KJV
GIGAKJV is a modern English revision of the King James Version. The comparison below uses the project's KJV text in the later 1769 tradition and marks, word by word, each verse of Jeremiah 19 where the wording differs: struck-through words are the KJV's, highlighted words are GIGAKJV's.
KJVThus saith the Lord, Go and get a potter's earthen bottle, and take of the ancients of the people, and of the ancients of the priests;
GIGAKJVThe Lord says this, Go and get a potter's clay bottle, and take of the elders of the people, and of the elders of the priests.
