Jeremiah 15
- 1Then the Lord said to me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind could not be toward this people: cast them out of my sight, and let them go out.
- 2If they say to you, Where shall we go out? Then you shall tell them, The Lord says this. Such as are for death, to death. And such as are for the sword, to the sword. And such as are for the famine, to the famine. And such as are for the captivity, to the captivity.
- 3And I will appoint over them four kinds, says the Lord: the sword to kill, and the dogs to tear, and the birds of the heaven, and the beasts of the earth, to devour and destroy.
- 4And I will cause them to be removed into all kingdoms of the earth, because of Manasseh the son of Hezekiah king of Judah, for that which he did in Jerusalem.
- 5For who shall have pity on you, O Jerusalem? Or who shall mourn for you? Or who shall go aside to ask how you do?
- 6You have abandoned me, says the Lord, you have gone backward: therefore I will stretch out my hand against you, and destroy you. I am weary with repenting.
- 7And I will scatter them like chaff with a winnowing fork at the gates of the land. I will rob them of children, I will destroy my people since they do not return from their ways.
- 8Their widows are increased to me above the sand of the seas: I have brought on them against the mother of the young men a destroyer at noon: I have caused him to fall on it suddenly, and terrors on the city.
- 9She who has borne seven languishes: she has given up the ghost. Her sun has gone down while it was yet day: she has been ashamed and disgraced: and the rest of them will I deliver to the sword before their enemies, says the Lord.
- 10How miserable I am, my mother, that you have borne me a man of conflict and a man of quarreling to the whole earth! I have not lent money for interest, and no one has lent to me for interest. Yet every one of them curses me.
- 11The Lord said, Truly it shall be well with your remnant. Truly I will cause the enemy to treat you well in the time of evil and in the time of suffering.
- 12Shall iron break the northern iron and the steel?
- 13Your substance and your treasures will I give to the plunder without price, and that for all your sins, even in all your borders.
- 14And I will make you to pass with your enemies into a land which you do not know. For a fire burns in my anger, which shall burn on you.
- 15O Lord, you know. Remember me, and visit me, and avenge me of my persecutors. Do not take me away in your patience. Know that for your sake I have endured rebuke.
- 16Your words were found, and I ate them. And your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart. For I am called by your name, O Lord God of hosts.
- 17I did not sit in the assembly of the mockers, or rejoice. I sat alone because of your hand. For you have filled me with anger.
- 18Why is my pain lasting, and my wound incurable, which refuses to be healed? Will you be altogether to me as a liar, and as waters that fail?
- 19Therefore the Lord says this, If you return, then I will bring you again, and you shall stand before me: and if you take out the precious from the vile, you shall be as my mouth: let them return to you. But do not return to them.
- 20And I will make you to this people a fenced bronze wall: and they shall fight against you, but they shall not overcome you. For I am with you to save you and to deliver you, says the Lord.
- 21And I will deliver you out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem you out of the hand of the ruthless.
What changed from the KJV
GIGAKJV is a modern English revision of the King James Version. The comparison below uses the project's KJV text in the later 1769 tradition and marks, word by word, each verse of Jeremiah 15 where the wording differs: struck-through words are the KJV's, highlighted words are GIGAKJV's.
KJVThen said the Lord unto me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind could not be toward this people: cast them out of my sight, and let them go forth.
GIGAKJVThen the Lord said to me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind could not be toward this people: cast them out of my sight, and let them go out.
KJVAnd it shall come to pass, if they say unto thee, Whither shall we go forth? then thou shalt tell them, Thus saith the Lord; Such as are for death, to death; and such as are for the sword, to the sword; and such as are for the famine, to the famine; and such as are for the captivity, to the captivity.
GIGAKJVIf they say to you, Where shall we go out? Then you shall tell them, The Lord says this. Such as are for death, to death. And such as are for the sword, to the sword. And such as are for the famine, to the famine. And such as are for the captivity, to the captivity.
KJVAnd I will appoint over them four kinds, saith the Lord: the sword to slay, and the dogs to tear, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the earth, to devour and destroy.
GIGAKJVAnd I will appoint over them four kinds, says the Lord: the sword to kill, and the dogs to tear, and the birds of the heaven, and the beasts of the earth, to devour and destroy.
KJVFor who shall have pity upon thee, O Jerusalem? or who shall bemoan thee? or who shall go aside to ask how thou doest?
GIGAKJVFor who shall have pity on you, O Jerusalem? Or who shall mourn for you? Or who shall go aside to ask how you do?
KJVThou hast forsaken me, saith the Lord, thou art gone backward: therefore will I stretch out my hand against thee, and destroy thee; I am weary with repenting.
GIGAKJVYou have abandoned me, says the Lord, you have gone backward: therefore I will stretch out my hand against you, and destroy you. I am weary with repenting.
KJVAnd I will fan them with a fan in the gates of the land; I will bereave them of children, I will destroy my people since they return not from their ways.
GIGAKJVAnd I will scatter them like chaff with a winnowing fork at the gates of the land. I will rob them of children, I will destroy my people since they do not return from their ways.
KJVTheir widows are increased to me above the sand of the seas: I have brought upon them against the mother of the young men a spoiler at noonday: I have caused him to fall upon it suddenly, and terrors upon the city.
GIGAKJVTheir widows are increased to me above the sand of the seas: I have brought on them against the mother of the young men a destroyer at noon: I have caused him to fall on it suddenly, and terrors on the city.
KJVShe that hath borne seven languisheth: she hath given up the ghost; her sun is gone down while it was yet day: she hath been ashamed and confounded: and the residue of them will I deliver to the sword before their enemies, saith the Lord.
GIGAKJVShe who has borne seven languishes: she has given up the ghost. Her sun has gone down while it was yet day: she has been ashamed and disgraced: and the rest of them will I deliver to the sword before their enemies, says the Lord.
KJVWoe is me, my mother, that thou hast borne me a man of strife and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have neither lent on usury, nor men have lent to me on usury; yet every one of them doth curse me.
GIGAKJVHow miserable I am, my mother, that you have borne me a man of conflict and a man of quarreling to the whole earth! I have not lent money for interest, and no one has lent to me for interest. Yet every one of them curses me.
KJVThe Lord said, Verily it shall be well with thy remnant; verily I will cause the enemy to entreat thee well in the time of evil and in the time of affliction.
GIGAKJVThe Lord said, Truly it shall be well with your remnant. Truly I will cause the enemy to treat you well in the time of evil and in the time of suffering.
KJVThy substance and thy treasures will I give to the spoil without price, and that for all thy sins, even in all thy borders.
GIGAKJVYour substance and your treasures will I give to the plunder without price, and that for all your sins, even in all your borders.
KJVAnd I will make thee to pass with thine enemies into a land which thou knowest not: for a fire is kindled in mine anger, which shall burn upon you.
GIGAKJVAnd I will make you to pass with your enemies into a land which you do not know. For a fire burns in my anger, which shall burn on you.
KJVO Lord, thou knowest: remember me, and visit me, and revenge me of my persecutors; take me not away in thy longsuffering: know that for thy sake I have suffered rebuke.
GIGAKJVO Lord, you know. Remember me, and visit me, and avenge me of my persecutors. Do not take me away in your patience. Know that for your sake I have endured rebuke.
KJVThy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts.
GIGAKJVYour words were found, and I ate them. And your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart. For I am called by your name, O Lord God of hosts.
KJVI sat not in the assembly of the mockers, nor rejoiced; I sat alone because of thy hand: for thou hast filled me with indignation.
GIGAKJVI did not sit in the assembly of the mockers, or rejoice. I sat alone because of your hand. For you have filled me with anger.
KJVWhy is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, which refuseth to be healed? wilt thou be altogether unto me as a liar, and as waters that fail?
GIGAKJVWhy is my pain lasting, and my wound incurable, which refuses to be healed? Will you be altogether to me as a liar, and as waters that fail?
KJVTherefore thus saith the Lord, If thou return, then will I bring thee again, and thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: let them return unto thee; but return not thou unto them.
GIGAKJVTherefore the Lord says this, If you return, then I will bring you again, and you shall stand before me: and if you take out the precious from the vile, you shall be as my mouth: let them return to you. But do not return to them.
KJVAnd I will make thee unto this people a fenced brasen wall: and they shall fight against thee, but they shall not prevail against thee: for I am with thee to save thee and to deliver thee, saith the Lord.
GIGAKJVAnd I will make you to this people a fenced bronze wall: and they shall fight against you, but they shall not overcome you. For I am with you to save you and to deliver you, says the Lord.
KJVAnd I will deliver thee out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem thee out of the hand of the terrible.
GIGAKJVAnd I will deliver you out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem you out of the hand of the ruthless.
