James 5
- 1Come now, you rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come on you.
- 2Your riches have rotted, and your garments are moth-eaten.
- 3Your gold and silver are corroded, and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. You have heaped treasure together for the last days.
- 4The wages you fraudulently kept back from the workers who harvested your fields cry out, and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of armies.
- 5You have lived in pleasure on the earth, and indulged yourselves. You have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.
- 6You have condemned and killed the just, and he does not resist you.
- 7Be patient therefore, brothers and sisters, to the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, and has long patience for it, until he receives the early and latter rain.
- 8You also be patient. Establish your hearts. For the coming of the Lord draws near.
- 9Do not grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, so that you are not condemned. The judge stands at the door.
- 10Take, my brothers and sisters, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, as an example of suffering and of patience.
- 11We count them happy who endure. You have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the outcome the Lord brought about, that the Lord is very compassionate, and of tender mercy.
- 12Above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear by heaven, by the earth, or by any other oath. Let your yes be yes, and your no be no, so that you do not fall into condemnation.
- 13Is any among you suffering? Let him pray. Is any cheerful? Let him sing psalms.
- 14Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
- 15And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up. And if he has committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
- 16Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power.
- 17Elijah was a human being with a nature like ours. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and no rain fell on the land for three years and six months.
- 18And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth bore her fruit.
- 19Brothers and sisters, if any of you go astray from the truth, and someone turns him back,
- 20Let him know that the one who turns the sinner back from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a great number of sins.
