Galatians 4
- 1Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differs nothing from a servant, though he is lord of all.
- 2But he is under guardians and managers until the time appointed by the father.
- 3Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world.
- 4But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent out his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,
- 5To redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
- 6And because you are sons, God has sent out the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
- 7Therefore you are no more a servant, but a son. And if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
- 8But then, when you did not know God, you did service to those who by nature are no gods.
- 9But now, after you have known God, or rather are known by God, how do you turn again to the weak and beggarly elements, to which you desire again to be in bondage?
- 10You observe days, and months, and times, and years.
- 11I am afraid for you, that my labor for you may have been in vain.
- 12Brothers and sisters, I urge you, be as I am, for I am as you are. You have not injured me at all.
- 13You know how through weakness of the flesh I preached the gospel to you at the first.
- 14And my trial which was in my flesh you did not despise, or reject, but received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.
- 15Where then is the blessedness you spoke of? For I bear you record, that if it had been possible, you would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given them to me.
- 16Have I then become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?
- 17They are zealous for you, but not for good. Yes, they would shut you out, so that you might be zealous for them.
- 18But it is good to be zealous always in a good thing, and not only when I am present with you.
- 19My little children, I am in labor over you again until Christ is formed in you.
- 20I desire to be present with you now, and to change my tone, for I stand in doubt of you.
- 21Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, do you not hear the law?
- 22For it is written that Abraham had two sons, the one by a servant woman, the other by a free woman.
- 23But he who was of the servant woman was born after the flesh. But he of the free woman was by promise.
- 24These things are an allegory. For these are the two covenants. The one from mount Sinai, which gives birth to slavery, which is Hagar.
- 25For this Hagar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, and is in bondage with her children.
- 26But Jerusalem which is above is free, who is the mother of us all.
- 27For it is written, Rejoice, you barren who do not bear. Burst out and cry, you who were never in labor. For the woman who was left alone has many more children than she who has a husband.
- 28Now we, brothers and sisters, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.
- 29But as then he who was born after the flesh persecuted him who was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.
- 30But what says the scripture? Cast out the servant woman and her son. For the son of the servant woman shall not be heir with the son of the free woman.
- 31So then, brothers and sisters, we are not children of the servant woman, but of the free.
What changed from the KJV
GIGAKJV is a modern English revision of the King James Version. The comparison below uses the project's KJV text in the later 1769 tradition and marks, word by word, each verse of Galatians 4 where the wording differs: struck-through words are the KJV's, highlighted words are GIGAKJV's.
KJVNow I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;

KJVWhich things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.
GIGAKJVThese things are an allegory. For these are the two covenants. The one from mount Sinai, which gives birth to slavery, which is Hagar.
