2 Peter 2
- 1But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who secretly shall bring in destructive factions, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.
- 2And many shall follow their destructive ways, and because of them the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
- 3And through greed shall they with made-up words use you to make money, whose judgment now of a long time does not linger, and their destruction is not asleep.
- 4For if God did not spare the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved to judgment,
- 5and did not spare the old world, but saved Noah, a preacher of righteousness, along with seven others, bringing in the flood on the world of the godless,
- 6and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live godless lives,
- 7and delivered righteous Lot, troubled with the filthy conduct of the wicked—
- 8for that righteous man living among them troubled his righteous soul day after day by what he saw and heard of their unlawful deeds—
- 9then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of trials, and to reserve the unjust to the day of judgment to be punished,
- 10but chiefly those who walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise authority. Bold and self-willed, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities,
- 11whereas angels, who are greater in power and might, do not bring insulting accusation against them before the Lord.
- 12But these, like unreasoning animals that live by instinct, made to be caught and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they do not understand, and shall completely perish in their own corruption,
- 13and shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as those who count it pleasure to indulge themselves in the daytime. Spots they are and defects, enjoying their own deceit while they feast with you.
- 14They have eyes full of adultery that never stop sinning. They lure unstable souls and have a heart trained in greedy practices. They are cursed children.
- 15They have abandoned the right way, and have gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness.
- 16But he was rebuked for his wrongdoing: a donkey, normally unable to speak, spoke with a human voice and stopped the prophet's madness.
- 17These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a storm, and for them deep darkness is reserved forever.
- 18For when they speak big, empty words, they lure through the desires of the flesh, through much indecency, those who had truly escaped from those who live in error.
- 19While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever a man is overcome by, to that he is brought in bondage.
- 20For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.
- 21For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.
- 22But it has happened to them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again, and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mud.
What changed from the KJV
GIGAKJV is a modern English revision of the King James Version. The comparison below uses the project's KJV text in the later 1769 tradition and marks, word by word, each verse of 2 Peter 2 where the wording differs: struck-through words are the KJV's, highlighted words are GIGAKJV's.
KJVBut there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
GIGAKJVBut there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who secretly shall bring in destructive factions, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.
KJVAnd many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

KJVAnd through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
GIGAKJVAnd through greed shall they with made-up words use you to make money, whose judgment now of a long time does not linger, and their destruction is not asleep.
KJVFor if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

KJVAnd delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:
