Exodus 34
- 1And the Lord said to Moses, Cut you two tablets of stone like to the first: and I will write on these tablets the words that were in the first tables, which you broke.
- 2And be ready in the morning, and come up in the morning to mount Sinai, and present yourself there to me in the top of the mount.
- 3And no man shall come up with you, neither let any man be seen throughout all the mount. Neither let the flocks or herds feed before that mount.
- 4And he cut two tablets of stone like to the first, and Moses rose up early in the morning, and went up to mount Sinai, as the Lord had commanded him, and took in his hand the two tablets of stone.
- 5And the Lord descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord.
- 6And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, patient, and abundant in goodness and truth,
- 7Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving wrongdoing and rebellion and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the wrongdoing of the fathers on the children, and on the children's children, to the third and to the fourth generation.
- 8And Moses hurried, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshiped.
- 9And he said, If now I have found grace in your sight, O Lord, let my Lord, please go among us. For it is a stiff-necked people. Pardon our wrongdoing and our sin, and take us for your inheritance.
- 10And he said, I make a covenant. Before all your people I will do wonders, such as have not been done in all the earth, or in any nation. And all the people you live among shall see the work of the Lord. For it is an awesome thing that I will do with you.
- 11Observe that which I command you this day: I drive out before you the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite.
- 12Be careful, so you do not make a covenant with the people of the land where you go, so it does not be for a snare among you:
- 13But you shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their Asherah poles:
- 14For you shall worship no other god. For the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:
- 15Or else you will make a covenant with the people of the land, and they chase after their gods, and do sacrifice to their gods, and one call you, and you eat of his sacrifice.
- 16And you take of their daughters to your sons, and their daughters chase after their gods, and make your sons chase after their gods.
- 17You shall make you no gods of cast metal.
- 18The Feast of Bread Made Without Yeast shall you keep. Seven days you shall eat bread made without yeast, as I commanded you, in the time of the month Abib. For in the month Abib you came out from Egypt.
- 19All that opens the womb is mine. Every firstborn among your cattle, whether ox or sheep, that is male.
- 20But the firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb: and if you do not redeem him, then you shall break his neck. All the firstborn of your sons you shall redeem. And none shall appear before me empty.
- 21Six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest: in plowing time and in harvest you shall rest.
- 22And you shall observe the feast of weeks, of the firstfruits of wheat harvest, and the feast of ingathering at the year's end.
- 23Three times in the year shall all your males appear before the Lord God, the God of Israel.
- 24For I will cast out the nations before you, and enlarge your borders: neither shall any man desire your land, when you shall go up to appear before the Lord your God three times in the year.
- 25You shall not offer the blood of my sacrifice with yeast. Neither shall the sacrifice of the feast of the passover be left to the morning.
- 26The first of the firstfruits of your land you shall bring to the house of the Lord your God. You shall not boil a kid in his mother's milk.
- 27And the Lord said to Moses, Write these words. For based on these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.
- 28And he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights. He did not eat bread, or drink water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.
- 29When Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tablets of the covenant in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him.
- 30And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, the skin of his face shone. They were afraid to come near him.
- 31And Moses called to them. Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned to him: and Moses talked with them.
- 32And afterward all the children of Israel came near: and he gave them in commandment all that the Lord had spoken with him in mount Sinai.
- 33And till Moses had done speaking with them, he put a veil on his face.
- 34But when Moses went in before the Lord to speak with him, he took the veil off, until he came out. And he came out, and spoke to the children of Israel that which he was commanded.
- 35And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses' face shone: and Moses put the veil on his face again, until he went in to speak with him.
