Amos 7
- 1The Lord God showed me this. And he formed grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth. And it was the latter growth after the king's mowing.
- 2And it happened, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord God, forgive, I urge you: who shall raise Jacob up? For he is small.
- 3The Lord repented for this: It shall not be, says the Lord.
- 4The Lord God showed me this: and the Lord God called for judgment by fire, and it devoured the great deep, and ate up a part.
- 5Then I said, O Lord God, stop, I urge you: who shall raise Jacob up? For he is small.
- 6The Lord repented for this: This also shall not be, says the Lord God.
- 7So he showed me: and the Lord stood on a wall made by a plumb line, with a plumb line in his hand.
- 8And the Lord said to me, Amos, what do you see? And I said, A plumb line. Then the Lord said, I will set a plumb line among my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more:
- 9And the high places of Isaac shall be ruined, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste. And I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.
- 10Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos has conspired against you in the middle of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.
- 11For so Amos says, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of their own land.
- 12Also Amaziah said to Amos, O you seer, go, flee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:
- 13But do not prophesy again any more at Bethel. For it is the king's chapel, and it is the king's court.
- 14Then Amos answered, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet's son. But I was a herdsman, and a gatherer of sycamore fruit:
- 15And the Lord took me as I followed the flock, and the Lord said to me, Go, prophesy to my people Israel.
- 16Now therefore hear you the word of the Lord: You say, Do not prophesy against Israel, and do not drop your word against the house of Isaac.
- 17Therefore the Lord says this. Your wife shall be a prostitute in the city, and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword, and your land shall be divided by line. And you shall die in a polluted land: and Israel shall surely go into captivity out of his land.
What changed from the KJV
GIGAKJV is a modern English revision of the King James Version. The comparison below uses the project's KJV text in the later 1769 tradition and marks, word by word, each verse of Amos 7 where the wording differs: struck-through words are the KJV's, highlighted words are GIGAKJV's.
KJVThus hath the Lord God shewed unto me; and, behold, he formed grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king's mowings.
GIGAKJVThe Lord God showed me this. And he formed grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth. And it was the latter growth after the king's mowing.
KJVAnd it came to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord God, forgive, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.
GIGAKJVAnd it happened, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord God, forgive, I urge you: who shall raise Jacob up? For he is small.
KJVThe Lord repented for this: It shall not be, saith the Lord.
GIGAKJVThe Lord repented for this: It shall not be, says the Lord.
KJVThus hath the Lord God shewed unto me: and, behold, the Lord God called to contend by fire, and it devoured the great deep, and did eat up a part.
GIGAKJVThe Lord God showed me this: and the Lord God called for judgment by fire, and it devoured the great deep, and ate up a part.
KJVThen said I, O Lord God, cease, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.
GIGAKJVThen I said, O Lord God, stop, I urge you: who shall raise Jacob up? For he is small.
KJVThe Lord repented for this: This also shall not be, saith the Lord God.
GIGAKJVThe Lord repented for this: This also shall not be, says the Lord God.
KJVThus he shewed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.
GIGAKJVSo he showed me: and the Lord stood on a wall made by a plumb line, with a plumb line in his hand.
KJVAnd the Lord said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more:
GIGAKJVAnd the Lord said to me, Amos, what do you see? And I said, A plumb line. Then the Lord said, I will set a plumb line among my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more:
KJVAnd the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.
GIGAKJVAnd the high places of Isaac shall be ruined, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste. And I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.
KJVThen Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.
GIGAKJVThen Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos has conspired against you in the middle of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.
KJVFor thus Amos saith, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of their own land.
GIGAKJVFor so Amos says, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of their own land.
KJVAlso Amaziah said unto Amos, O thou seer, go, flee thee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:
GIGAKJVAlso Amaziah said to Amos, O you seer, go, flee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:
KJVBut prophesy not again any more at Bethel: for it is the king's chapel, and it is the king's court.
GIGAKJVBut do not prophesy again any more at Bethel. For it is the king's chapel, and it is the king's court.
KJVThen answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet's son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit:
GIGAKJVThen Amos answered, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet's son. But I was a herdsman, and a gatherer of sycamore fruit:
KJVAnd the Lord took me as I followed the flock, and the Lord said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.
GIGAKJVAnd the Lord took me as I followed the flock, and the Lord said to me, Go, prophesy to my people Israel.
KJVNow therefore hear thou the word of the Lord: Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, and drop not thy word against the house of Isaac.
GIGAKJVNow therefore hear you the word of the Lord: You say, Do not prophesy against Israel, and do not drop your word against the house of Isaac.
KJVTherefore thus saith the Lord; Thy wife shall be an harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou shalt die in a polluted land: and Israel shall surely go into captivity forth of his land.
GIGAKJVTherefore the Lord says this. Your wife shall be a prostitute in the city, and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword, and your land shall be divided by line. And you shall die in a polluted land: and Israel shall surely go into captivity out of his land.
