1 Thessalonians 2
- 1For yourselves, brothers and sisters, know our entrance in to you, that it was not in vain.
- 2But even after we had suffered before, and were shamefully treated, as you know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak to you the gospel of God with much struggle.
- 3For our appeal was not of deceit, or of uncleanness, or of trickery.
- 4But as we were approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God, who tries our hearts.
- 5For at no time did we use flattering words, as you know, or a cloak of greed. God is witness.
- 6And we did not seek glory from men, not from you, or from others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.
- 7But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherishes her children.
- 8So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted to you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because you were dear to us.
- 9For you remember, brothers and sisters, our labor and hardship: we worked night and day so that we would not be a financial burden to any of you while we preached the gospel of God to you.
- 10You are witnesses, and God also, how devoutly and justly and blamelessly we behaved ourselves among you who believe.
- 11As you know how we urged and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father does his children,
- 12That you would walk worthy of God, who has called you to his kingdom and glory.
- 13For this cause also we thank God without stopping, because when you received the word of God which you heard of us, you did not receive it as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectively works also in you who believe.
- 14For you, brothers and sisters, became imitators of the churches of God which in Judea are in Christ Jesus. For you also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews.
- 15Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us, and they do not please God, and are contrary to all men.
- 16Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to fill up their sins always. For the wrath has come on them in full.
- 17But we, brothers and sisters, being taken from you for a short time in presence, not in heart, endeavored the more abundantly to see your face with great desire.
- 18Therefore we wanted to come to you, even I Paul, once and again, but Satan hindered us.
- 19For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?
- 20For you are our glory and joy.
What changed from the KJV
GIGAKJV is a modern English revision of the King James Version. The comparison below uses the project's KJV text in the later 1769 tradition and marks, word by word, each verse of 1 Thessalonians 2 where the wording differs: struck-through words are the KJV's, highlighted words are GIGAKJV's.
KJVFor yourselves, brethren, know our entrance in unto you, that it was not in vain:
GIGAKJVFor yourselves, brothers and sisters, know our entrance in to you, that it was not in vain.
KJVBut even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention.
GIGAKJVBut even after we had suffered before, and were shamefully treated, as you know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak to you the gospel of God with much struggle.
KJVFor our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile:
GIGAKJVFor our appeal was not of deceit, or of uncleanness, or of trickery.
KJVBut as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.
GIGAKJVBut as we were approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God, who tries our hearts.
KJVFor neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloke of covetousness; God is witness:
GIGAKJVFor at no time did we use flattering words, as you know, or a cloak of greed. God is witness.
KJVNor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.
GIGAKJVAnd we did not seek glory from men, not from you, or from others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.
KJVBut we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children:
GIGAKJVBut we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherishes her children.
KJVSo being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us.
GIGAKJVSo being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted to you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because you were dear to us.
KJVFor ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: for labouring night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God.
GIGAKJVFor you remember, brothers and sisters, our labor and hardship: we worked night and day so that we would not be a financial burden to any of you while we preached the gospel of God to you.
KJVYe are witnesses, and God also, how holily and justly and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you that believe:
GIGAKJVYou are witnesses, and God also, how devoutly and justly and blamelessly we behaved ourselves among you who believe.
KJVAs ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children,
GIGAKJVAs you know how we urged and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father does his children,
KJVThat ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.
GIGAKJVThat you would walk worthy of God, who has called you to his kingdom and glory.
KJVFor this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.
GIGAKJVFor this cause also we thank God without stopping, because when you received the word of God which you heard of us, you did not receive it as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectively works also in you who believe.
KJVFor ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews:
GIGAKJVFor you, brothers and sisters, became imitators of the churches of God which in Judea are in Christ Jesus. For you also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews.
KJVWho both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men:
GIGAKJVWho both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us, and they do not please God, and are contrary to all men.
KJVForbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to fill up their sins alway: for the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost.
GIGAKJVForbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to fill up their sins always. For the wrath has come on them in full.
KJVBut we, brethren, being taken from you for a short time in presence, not in heart, endeavoured the more abundantly to see your face with great desire.
GIGAKJVBut we, brothers and sisters, being taken from you for a short time in presence, not in heart, endeavored the more abundantly to see your face with great desire.
KJVWherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us.
GIGAKJVTherefore we wanted to come to you, even I Paul, once and again, but Satan hindered us.
KJVFor what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?
GIGAKJVFor what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?
KJVFor ye are our glory and joy.
GIGAKJVFor you are our glory and joy.
